New security features on Instagram to protect your Instagram account

Instagram Security - What the new Instagram security features are supposed to do
Instagram accounts are hacked again and again. As a result, some users lose control over their account only for a short time and for others the account is gone forever. Instagram now wants to ensure that hackers have less success in the future. That is why a new security feature is to be introduced soon. This is intended to encourage users to take more protective precautions with a pop-up. This includes verifying login activity and profile information, confirming accounts with shared login information, and updating contact information for account recovery.
At what point is behavior on Instagram suspicious?
With this check, however, Instagram also wants to steer Instagram users with suspicious activity into a security check. One sign of suspicious behavior is, for example, logging into the app from different countries too close together in time. Data subjects are then asked for your stored information, such as the email address, phone number and Facebook account. If you are not sure which data you have stored and would like to view it, you can do so directly in the app. Under Settings and Account you can see your own data. Under Security you will also find all the necessary information about the security of your account. In the security review message, Instagram again clarifies that they will never send users messages via DM.
Instagram security - With this trick strangers steal your password
In the past, there were repeatedly users who received alleged messages from Instagram via DM, which contained the threat that the account would be suspended due to certain violations. To prevent the blocking, users should log in to the app again via a link. These messages aim to steal the password and thus take over the account. So to hack, so to speak. Instagram therefore reiterates that they do not send messages via Direct Message. They urge users to immediately report the accounts from which these messages were sent. The official route Instagram would use for breach notifications would be through the “Emails from Instagram” tab in the settings under security. So if you see a spam message or a message that seems official, don’t think twice and report the accounts. This way you protect not only yourself, but also other users.
Instagram Security - What other security measures are in place?
Also, Instagram recommends “two-factor authentication” for account security. This will notify you when another new device logs into your account. A further login must then be confirmed by a code, which you will receive by SMS to the deposited cell phone number. Instagram plans to make this possible via WhatsApp in the near future. Whether this function will soon be available in Germany via WhatsApp remains to be seen. For the security check you need to provide your data such as date of birth, name and phone number. He also said that it is especially secure to link your Facebook account with Instagram.
