Connect JTL-Wawi and WooCommerce
JTL-Wawi is the free enterprise resource planning from JTL-Software. The large range of functions is already a great support for many small and medium-sized companies. It scales with the size of the company and can be adapted to your processes through many extensions.
WooCommerce is one of the most popular online store systems. Like JTL-Wawi, it is free and can be easily customized for the German market. The “Storefront” theme, which is also included for free, works well with the German customizations.
How you can bring these two systems together and create an easily expandable and free online store incl. You can read more about how to set up merchandise management and warehouse management here.
Install JTL-Wawi
The installation is very simple. First, download the installation file here:
https://www.jtl-software.de/jtl-wawi-download
Keep in mind that JTL-Wawi should be installed on a computer that is constantly switched on and connected to the Internet. Otherwise there will be problems with the synchronization of the articles later.
The installation is self-explanatory and requires no intervention. If difficulties arise here, we are happy to offer support.
Set up JTL-Wawi
After installation, the setup wizard will start, asking you for the most important facts about your company. Information about the location, tax information, etc. Once you are done with this, you can already enter the first articles. Either manually or as CSV import with JTL Ant.
Basically, you just need to map the columns that are in the CSV file to the corresponding fields in JTL-Wawi. If you don’t want to do that and would rather leave it to a professional, I just contact us. We are familiar with big data and all JTL products, so we are happy to bring the items into your Wawi.
WooCommerce and WordPress
As a prerequisite for WooCommerce, WordPress must first be installed. Although WordPress already offers you hosting, you can start with it for free. However, you should rather rely on your own server, because here you can do as you please. On WordPress.com you are limited in what you can do.
We are happy to set up WordPress with WooCommerce and JTL-Wawi on our servers.
Install WordPress
The requirement is that you have a server with PHP7.4 or higher and a MySQL database 5.6 or MariaDB 10.3. You also need the access data to the database and the FTP data.
Now download the installation package:
https://de.wordpress.org/download/
Unzip the ZIP file to a folder that sounds reasonable, so you can find it right away.
Now start your FTP program, e.g. FileZilla and enter the FTP data to your server. Then, in the left pane, go to the folder with the unzipped WordPress installation. In the right pane you change to the correct destination folder, usually “www” or “html”. Delete the contents and select all folders and files on the left. Then drag it to the right to start the upload.
Once the upload is done, go to your website address and fill in the required data, including the address of your website. of your database details. After the installation is complete, you will land in the backend of your website.
Install WooCommerce
The installation of WooCommerce is a bit easier. You simply switch to the “Plugins” section in the backend on the left and click on “Install” here.
Now write “WooCommerce” in the search box and click “Install now” for these two plugins. You can do this one right after the other, because WordPress remembers the order and installs the two plugins correctly.
Then you activate both plugins so that you can set up the store.
WooCommerce Germanized is the plugin that adapts WooCommerce for the German market. So it’s essential. After the installation, the short setup wizard starts, whose settings are already in order in the standard version.
You only need the lower two settings if you trade with EU countries. In interaction with JTL-Wawi these two points become even more important.
In the next step, you can specify whether you are a small business owner and whether you want to enable the double opt-in process for customer accounts. You should activate the procedure to avoid being warned.
Now you are done and can return to the admin area.
Connect JTL-Wawi and WooCommerce
Once you have successfully installed both programs, install the JTL connector in WordPress. To do this, click on “Plugins” on the left again and then on “Install” at the top. In the search field you write “JTL Connector”, then you get directly the right search result.
As with WooCommerce also simply install and activate.
You can now find the WooCommerce JTL Connector in your plugin list, where you go directly to the settings. Leave this settings page open and go to the JTL Customer Center in a second tab. In the “Licenses” section, click on “JTL Connector” and activate your license for WooCommerce 4.
Add the connector, add your address information, and then paste the URL from the WooCommerce store.
If you have not already done so, copy the license key from the “Licenses” page. It is in blue in the upper area and must be entered in JTL-Wawi.
Now switch to JTL-Wawi and, if you haven’t already done so, enter the license key under “Help/Licenses/Licenses”.
Now you will also see the license for the JTL connector for WooCommerce. Before you connect the online store, you need to set the appropriate control settings. Further up, when setting up WooCommerce Germanized, you could specify whether you want to import European tax rates.
If you have done that, they must also be in JTL-Wawi. Otherwise, the two programs will not work together.
Now we add the settings for the JTL connector in JTL-Wawi.
In the upper right corner click on “Create”. Fill in the data and click on “Test connection”.
If the connection is ok, further data is requested.
With the following settings, the items are always given only from the Wawi towards the store, not vice versa. In the right pane you can see what will happen if you do not remove the unnecessary tax rates or do not add them in JTL-Wawi. Since the tax rates do not match, an error message occurs.
If everything fits, simply click OK in the upper right corner and the store is created.
Via the button “Onlineshop” or the key F11 you start a store comparison. The data from JTL-Wawi is then transferred to the online store.
Please keep in mind that JTL-Wawi is inventory-managed as of now. Do not make any more changes to WooCommerce, but only in JTL-Wawi, because the stocks are not synchronized, but only overwritten.
