Create JTL Shop 5 Template
How to create your own JTL store theme
Create your own template in your JTL-Shop 5 – How this works, which themes can be the basis of the whole thing, which content portlets and layout portlets are available to you and how your JTL-Shop 5 template can then look like in the end, that’s what you’ll see in this screencast episode.
Two basic templates to create your JTL Shop 5 template
JTL-Software offers with its own store system two basic templates, which you can individualize according to your wishes to create your own template. As we can see in the backend, both of them can be found by default in the settings under Templates. We currently have the NOVA template active and will take a look at how this can be built up as an example. But before that, let’s take a look at the Throw setting options.
NOVO template settings
You can make general settings, such as the following to compress certain files and you can already implement optical theme settings. This includes the insertion of a favicon, which is then played next to your URL or the activation of animations when the page visitor hovers over buttons. When activated, there would then be a brief shine effect on the button when a customer hovers the mouse over it. The megamenu settings determine which elements should be displayed in the megamenu or not. Is e.g. the setting for categories is active, the categories will be displayed in the upper part of the page in the mega menu. If this option is disabled, you need to enable a category box for each page in the box management so that your customers can still reach the categories. In addition, you can set whether subcategories should be displayed next to the main categories in the mega menu and whether images should also be displayed for them. Below this, adjustments to the lists and gallery view can then be made, with which filter options can then be optionally placed at specific locations. So for example. in the sidebar or in a separate window. This would then determine whether in the list view of the article overview the button “Add to cart“ should be displayed. Finally, you can customize the footer in the NOVA Theme settings. This way, all social media channels can be accommodated and your newsletter can be displayed.
Create JTL Shop 5 Template in OnPage Composer
When we go into our frontend, we can then see what the template may ultimately look like. More detailed adjustments can be made using OnPage Composer, which you can also control directly from the frontend in JTL Shop 5 using the button at the top left. We’ve included an image slider as our first portlet, which first visually illustrates to customers what your store is all about. The images within the slider can then be easily replaced by clicking on the edit icon (pencil) and selecting the slides. In addition, text can also be placed within the individual slider sections, which is then played out as a belly band. A headline can then be placed under the slider, which is dragged and dropped from the content portlet area into the main area using either rich text or headline.
JTL store individualize piece by piece
In the third row, a layout portlet was used. With the so-called grid layout, two-column portlets can be created, in which text can be placed on one side and your product video on the other. If you don’t have a product video yet, we at eBakery are happy to help you with that as well. The next two portlet series were virtually combined. You have a dividing line with a heading under which your top sellers can be presented by means of a product stream. If we take a look at this in the frontend, a mouse click also takes us directly to the product, which we can then purchase.
Furthermore, a special offer countdown can then be set up, which you can find in the content section.
Variation possibilities of the layout portlets when creating your JTL-Shop 5 template
Next, the grid layout was used again, which you can then use, for example, to create a new grid. where you can describe yourselves and your team in more detail. In the end, a so-called flipcard was used, which you can find in the layout section, with which testimonials can be presented. In the layout portlet, any different content portlets can be placed. In this example, we used rich text as the headline, an image portlet to illustrate our testimonial model, and another rich text caption for the name. If you would press the flipcard now, the rating would appear in text form. But what would be just as possible is to place a video instead of text.
