A long overdue step and also probably not formulated correctly. JTL-Software announces that all new versions from 01/01/2016 of the free Wawi will no longer support SQL Server 2005. So if you haven’t migrated (upgraded) your SQL Server to SQL Server 2008 or 2012 yet, you should start thinking about it now at the latest. A huge step forward is the related announcement that the new version of Wawi will finally support SQL Server 2014.

I have been recommending the use of SQL Server 2008 or SQL Server 2012 for years. Not only for performance reasons, but because Microsoft has included many detail improvements in these two versions. For example, since the 2008 version, the SQL server can be removed and reinstalled without leaving any residue, which with the previous version ended in a reinstallation of the entire machine almost every time. Other advantages are that Microsoft has gradually increased the maximum size of databases and thus better adapted to the requirements of small companies in particular. From 4 GB, the maximum size of the database per instance has been increased to 10 GB, which should be sufficient for most.

Those who do not know which version is in use should contact their JTL-Wawi service partner or IT specialist in the next few days. He can definitely tell you which version is in use. JTL-Wawi hosting customers have it easier here. You will be informed in time by JTL software. For all others, a look in the Control Panel under Software is also sufficient. Here you can find the installed version.
