JTL Redis Cache

The fast cache solution for your JTL-Shop 4 / JTL-Shop 5

JTL Redis Cache for your JTL store
We explain what the Redis Cache is, what makes it different from other cache methods in the JTL store and show you where you can also find and set it in your online store. All this in our screencast or below in the blog article.

JTL Redis Cache - More speed for your JTL store

This episode is about how to improve the speed of your JTL store. One approach to implement this plan is to use the Redis cache. The cache in general is disabled by default in the JTL store and can be set according to individual needs. You will see in the cache settings of your JTL store backend that you are offered a few methods, one of which is Redis. However, if Redis is grayed out, this option is currently not selectable for you and would have to be retrofitted or reordered, depending on which hosting provider your store is with. If you want to make use of this, but you lack the know-how, you are welcome to make an appointment with our JTL specialists for advice. Click on the page and feel free to make an appointment.

But what is the Redis Cache actually?

This is what the JTL Redis Cache does

The cache memory in general is a fast buffer memory, which should primarily bring about better performance and time savings. If a website or in this case your store is visited by the customer, data remains in the cache, which makes a reload unnecessary, should the site visitor open the store page again. The special thing about Redis – which, by the way, stands for Remote Dictionary Serveris that the disk or volume access, i.e. the access to the HDD or SSD, is omitted. Instead, all data is stored in the in-memory data store. What sounds very technical ultimately results in microsecond fast access to the data for the user. We have listed all the other advantages for you, for those who want to know more.

  • In-memory data storage
  • Flexible data structures
  • Simplicity
  • Ease of use
  • Replication architecture and improved read performance
  • Consistency thanks to timing assurance
  • High availability
  • Scalability
  • Extensibility

Configuration for the JTL Shop 5

But how can we activate this fast cache memory then now in our JTL store. You can find the cache settings in the Shop 5 backend in the administration area under System and Cache. Go to the settings there, first activate the object cache and then select the desired method. As said, not every hosting provider offers Redis. In our case in the video, the option is not possible. For you, you would select Redis here, can determine for you how long the cache should keep the data. The number is given in “seconds”. At the end just save and the changes are done.

Configuration for the JTL Shop 4

In JTL-Shop 4 you can find the option on the top left in the main item System in the maintenance column in the area for cache. Again, go into the settings and the first thing you should do is enable the object cache and then select Redis.
So this is what it would look like if Redis is present. Do not forget to save at the end.
