JTL WMS – It starts with a barcode scanner
Anyone who thinks chaotic warehousing is no longer found in the warehouse is not yet familiar with JTL-WMS (Warehouse Management System). JTL-WMS is the warehouse management system for mail order business. In the last two weeks I had the opportunity to convince myself of the performance of the WMS in the company “The Rock Shop”. But how do I fit a WMS warehouse on 20 m², with which I can simulate and document the processes in the mail order business?
The good old 100-compartment type case and a barcode scanner are the solution. Who has such a set box, I would be a grateful buyer. But here I will probably have to prove my DIY skills.
The second tool I need is a barcode scanner, which doesn’t have to be mobile because of the small size of my warehouse (dollhouse size). Good devices are already available on the market from about 50 €. I spent a little over €60 at conrad for mine and am very happy with this device for my testing purposes.
The installation of the device was not particularly difficult. Unpack it, plug it into the nearest free USB slot, the device beeps once wildly and after less than a minute I was already able to scan the first barcodes of products in Word. Configuration of the device was not necessary.
Next, I think I’ll pay a visit to the nearest hardware store and hope to find the right thing for my mini-camp there.
