JTL's warehouse management system put under the microscope
In this JTL WMS video, we’ll show you what JTL’s warehouse management system is, what features it covers, what the four different shipping processes are, and what it will cost you.

In this blog, as promised, we dedicate ourselves to the big topic of warehouse management with JTL. Chronologically, this is the fifth product in the customer center. We are talking about JTL-WMS. If you’re just getting into our series now, we recommend you check out the other videos as well. We have linked the corresponding playlist for you. Now to the leading question – What is JTL-WMS?
What is JTL WMS?
WMS stands for Warehouse Management System. This can also be booked in the customer center. Unlike the enterprise resource planning system, however, this is subject to a fee. It will cost you 99€ per user. But let’s see what you get in return.
In the outgoing goods area, JTL-WMS 4 enables shipping processes. EazyShipping, shipping boxes, rolling picking and the mobile packing table.
What is JTL WMS? - EazyShipping
EazyShipping is especially suitable for shipping fewer items. A path-optimized pick list is automatically created, which can then be used to implement collective picking instead of picking individually. JTL-WMS knows at which place which article is located, which then also creates an optimized path. Thus, the employee follows the path with his cart and collects all the items one by one. It is recommended to use supporting devices such as mobile data capture devices for scanning. These are available for purchase in the JTL Store. In the end, the items associated with a shipment are scanned, packed and the delivery documents are automatically created and printed by JTL-WMS.
Goods issue with the shipping box method
With variant 2, the shipping boxes, everything runs in the same way until the picking process is completed. Shipping boxes marked with numbers are now available here. The employee scans the items and gets the corresponding number from the system and puts the item into the shipping box with the same number. In this context, a shipping box represents only an order. Once all items in the shipment are in the shipping box, the invoice is automatically printed and the items can be packed and shipped. The shipping box method is therefore suitable for multiple items per shipment.
The rolling order picking explained
Variant 3 is rolling picking. For this purpose, a mobile data collection device such as a MDE, smartphone or tablet is mandatory.
Additionally, the employee will need a rolling cart with numbered boxes. JTL-WMS creates a path-optimized pick list for as many shipments as there are boxes. Now the employee with the cart goes down the pick list, scans the items and puts them in the box indicated. Afterwards, only the box is scanned, the items are packed, the invoice is printed automatically and the items are shipped. Rolling order picking is therefore suitable for small, manageable products.
What is JTL WMS? - The mobile packing table
Variant 4 is then just suitable for heavy products and palletized goods. However, this requires a mobile packing table with a Windows PC or tablet, a connected printer and a barcode scanner. This in turn is used to create a path-optimized pick list. The employee scans a product, directly receives the shipping label and all other required documents, places it on the cart and can then either send it directly to shipping or, if there is still room, continue picking.
Further functions of the warehouse management system
Thus, with JTL-WMS you always have the ideal process for the associated shipment to work efficiently and save time and effort.
This also shows that there is not only an item management as in JTL-Wawi, but also a storage location management. The system therefore knows at all times where which article is located. Multi-dimensional storage bins of up to 6 dimensions can be used and chaotic storage can be applied. This has the advantage of optimal use of storage capacity and shorter walking distances. Even stock transfers are no problem with the replenishment function in JTL-WMS.
In the goods receipt, registered as well as free goods receipts can be converted, i.e. also with and without delivery bill. If the goods do not have a barcode, you can easily create labels with JTL-WMS. As a retailer, you surely know that you are obliged to take inventory. This can also be done with JTL-WMS. In turn, mobile data capture devices make your life easier.
The additional modules
So you see that for 99€ per user you get a complete warehouse management, from goods receipt to goods issue, temporary storage, stock transfer, inventory everything is covered. In doing so, attention is paid everywhere to efficiency on the one hand, but also to accuracy on the other, in order to avoid incorrect allocations.
Now let’s take a look at the individual additional modules. We have just gone through rolling picking, the shipping box process and the mobile packing table. These cost €99 per month each. But make sure beforehand that
1. JTL-Wawi is set up at your site
2. JTL WMS is submitted
3. you have a JTL customer account
These 3 things are required to use one of the add-on modules. If this is not yet the case for you, we at eBakery will be happy to help you as a JTL service partner and take over these tasks.
What is JTL WMS? - Other additional modules
In addition, we can also find EazyShipping in the JTL Store, which is again free of charge. So you can already pick without additional costs in JTL-WMS. However, if you want to make your life easier, you can use one of the additional modules offered.
Another additional module provides you with detailed control for perishable food or support items where the serial number is relevant.
With the MHD / Batch / Serial Numbers module, the relevant important data is recorded in the system, but you are also offered complete traceability from the supplier to the customer.
And yes JTL-WMS is also available as a mobile app. You can go to the Play Store on your Android device or as an Apple user to the App Store and search for JTL-WMS. There you will find this here.
What the module “Identical orders” is all about, we will come back to that at a later time, because this module is only available for the open beta version so far, so it is not recommended for live operation.
