Update JTL Shop 4 to JTL Shop 5

JTL-Shop 5 is in its final development phase, the tests went well and so did the bug fixing. Many retailers can hardly wait for the release date, as the new version brings some nice new features. What you can expect from the new JTL Shop 5, we have already told you in detail on the page.
So it’s time to start thinking about the update. We will be happy to take care of this delicate matter for you, so that you can get an up-to-date system without losing sales.
JTL Shop 5 - Update or new installation?
We would have to look at this question on a case-by-case basis. For the update you need a working version 4.02 and JTL-Wawi 1.0 (at least, higher is also possible). In addition, the template and all plugins must be available for JTL Shop 5. If not, you should check if you still need it, if there are alternatives and if your template needs to be redone anyway.
We are happy to answer all these questions and analyze your store in this regard.
In some cases, a fresh reinstallation may also help, we would then let you know the time required.
Update JTL Shop 4
If everything fits and the store is ready to be updated, we go through these steps:
Preparation
First we put the store into maintenance mode via “System / Global settings / Global settings”. This way we prevent orders from coming in during the update and data loss from happening.
We disable the worker so that no matching happens that can lead to problem later.
Now we create a backup of all data via an FTP program. Then we deactivate the plugins that you want to continue using (and are compatible) and uninstall those that you no longer need, or are also not compatible.
The last thing we do is create a database backup.
Update files
We now upload all updated files to the server via FTP, leaving out customized files and those we still need for the update.
The old files will be overwritten, so it is important to know which files to keep and which not.
Update database
Since a lot has happened here as well, the database structure has to be completely revised. We log into the backend of your store and start the update process. First, the database is checked for inconsistencies, then the update is performed.
If errors occur, our database experts will analyze what the problem is and fix the error so that the update goes through cleanly.
After the update, an error message will inevitably appear stating that the database structure is defective. Via “Administration > Troubleshooting > Diagnosis > Database structure > Details” we will activate the database restructuring.
The structure is converted to InnoDB and UTF8 so that international characters can also be processed. This is the preparation for JTL-Wawi 1.6 in the course of internationalization. This enables not only other languages, but also, for example, Cyrillic characters.
Cleanup
When everything has gone through cleanly, the new JTL Shop 5 will be available to you. We still delete old files that are no longer needed and check your store for functionality. Product configurations, connection to JTL-Wawi, test orders, everything that makes your store.
We install new versions for your plugins and also check if the template really still works. Otherwise we will be happy to create a new one for you.
