What is JTL Shipping?

There’s an old retailer joke: What would online retailing be without logistics providers? Exactly – stationary trade. Alternatively, you would have to deliver the goods to the customer yourself. Santa Claus sends his regards. But all joking aside, we all know what we have in our logisticians. They are the extended arm of our business and are not inconsequential to the customer experience. So whether we like it or not, we have to deal with the issue of logistics. And this is exactly where JTL Shipping comes into play.

Simply explained, JTL Shipping is a JTL Wawi interface to all well-known major German logistics providers. It allows us to automatically print shipping labels directly from Wawi without having to switch to the tools of the shipping service providers. It is our command center, so to speak. Tracking IDs and other shipping information from the service provider are imported directly into the Wawi during the delivery process and, if necessary, transmitted to customers or online marketplaces such as Amazon or eBay. Even creating return labels is no problem with JTL Shipping. Bundling all tasks in one central location not only saves an enormous amount of time in the shipping process, but also reduces potential sources of error.

JTL Shipping is included in JTL Wawi and can be used without any additional costs. We only pay the fees from our logistics partner. Currently the following shipping service providers are integrated in JTL Shipping:

  • German Post
  • DHL
  • Hermes
  • UPS
  • DPD

All settings and functions of the shipping partner are mapped in the Wawi. For example, we can choose between standard parcels and express shipments, or optionally arrange cash on delivery or registered mail. JTL adapts in a continuous process to the interfaces of the logistics partners so that we always find the latest features in the Wawi.

Why JTL Shipping is worthwhile

There are some specific use cases that highlight the power of JTL Shipping over traditional methods. We would like to present these to you in the following:

  • We can have multiple shipping providers shipping at the same time and switch between options at a moment’s notice if needed. This can be advantageous from an economic point of view or as a temporary solution in an emergency situation (e.g. strike at the shipping partner).
  • We never have to run to the post office again. Letter and parcel stamps can be printed directly from JTL Wawi.
  • Returns labels can be created fully automatically and sent to customers by e-mail with just one click.
  • Defective orders can be provided with a generated error label and then processed in bundles.
  • JTL Shipping can be smoothly combined with other JTL features such as JTL Packing Table+ and JTL WMS. Workflows can also be realized with the software.
  • Shipping labels can be customized. As a dropshipper, for example, we can store our customer’s address as the return address fully automatically.

These were just a few examples of the possible uses of JTL Shipping. Especially in combination with other JTL features JTL Shipping unfolds its full power. Let’s take a look at JTL Shipping in the Wawi now.

JTL Shipping in the Wawi

We call JTL Shipping via the shipping management in Wawi with Shipping > JTL-Shipping and find the following overview:

Under user accounts we can create a separate account for all contracts with logistics providers. Depending on the selected shipping partner, we find slightly different configuration settings in the right part. These reflect the settings of the respective service provider.

Different order types can then be automatically assigned to the shipping service provider of our choice. If we now receive an order, then the data is transmitted to our partner and he provides us with a shipping label. All we have to do is print the label and place it visibly on the finished packaged product.

In summary, the following steps should be taken when connecting a new logistics partner:

  • Store access data of the shipping service provider in the upper window
  • Create desired shipping types in Wawi
  • Assign a label printer to the shipping method
  • Start shipping!

You can find detailed installation instructions in the online documentation of JTL: https://guide.jtl-software.de/Kategorie:JTL-Shipping. Another overview of JTL Shipping can be found here: https://www.jtl-software.de/JTL-Shipping.

Conclusion

There’s nothing quite like smooth, fully automated shipping. At least for us dealers. JTL Shipping allows us to get a lot closer to this fantasy by providing us with multiple automation options. Use, use, use!
