JTL-Wawi 1.6 Create Variations and Customize Child Items

JTL-Wawi 1.6 Tutorial

In this JTL-Wawi 1.6 tutorial we will demonstrate the new features when creating a variant article. How you can customize and manage the child items and thus set up variation combinations to your liking, you will learn here.

Create JTL-Wawi 1.6 Variations - Where to find the installation file?

We are starting a new video series that most JTL-Wawi users will probably be happy to see. Because it will be about the new JTL-Wawi version 1.6. For all those who have not yet installed it for testing purposes, here is a hint where to find it. Those who have registered for the pilot program will be able to view the different beta phases in the customer center under “Participate” and “Pilot program” and also download the installer file for the new Wawi version there. How to install JTL-Wawi, by the way, you can read in our blog.

JTL-Wawi 1.6 Create variations - practical example

This article, on the other hand, is about creating variations. This is not an absolutely new feature, but one or two new things have been added. But we’ll show you exactly what that is with a practical example. We want to create a USB-C cable once as a father item, which will then be available in different lengths and colors. So you click on Create article and enter the necessary data of the parent article here. Now there is a tab for variations here. You will soon see that a new tab has been added next to it. But first, we create our variants in fast forward. So far so good. As you can see here, a new menu for child items or also called variation combinations has been created. This one is completely new. We can now go to “Add” here and you can already see the title of this sidebar “Inherit from father article”. This means that you can individually determine which properties should be taken from the parent article for the variation combinations. So a combination would be e.g. a blue USB-C cable with a length of 150cm.

Customization of the child items

If you want to use the shipping classes e.g. maintain individually, you can take the hook out here. On the right side you can both view and customize how the part numbers are composed. You can determine the separator, vary the order simply by dragging and dropping and then also see directly in the preview how the whole thing will look. Otherwise, it is still possible to determine how many digits are to be specified. Once we are satisfied with this we can click on “Next” and see all the child items generated with it. You can now use it to create individual or all of them. After that, the main field itself will display the father item and then if you go to the “Linked Items” tab at the bottom, you will see all the child items. These can then be adjusted as usual by double-clicking on the parent article. If you now want to make global changes that apply to all child items, you can do so here with “Change”. This way, all article numbers can be readjusted and have a “global” effect, as already mentioned.
