JTL-Wawi: How to create categories?
Start JTL-Wawi and log in with an appropriately authorized client. To enter the product management, either press the function key “F2” on the keyboard or click on the Article icon in the toolbar.

The Articles window is divided into four sections:
- Category management
- Article management
- An area in which inventories, suppliers, prices and linked items can be managed
- As well as an area for eBay templates, attributes, fields and features
Since this is about how to create categories in JTL-Wawi, we are only interested in the red marked category management.
To create a new category click the Add button in the Categories section. Then the Category Details window opens. The window is divided into five tabs:
- General: Here you can make general settings for the current category incl. Make subcategories and articles.
- Descriptions: Here you can set the name and description of the current category in languages other than the default language.
- Attributes: Here you can manage attributes for the current category
- Category images: Here you can create, manage and export a display image for the current category.
In this example, let’s assume that we adminsitrate a bike store where we manage different types of bikes. So, in the general tab, enter “trekking bikes” as the name, and in the description, enter “Take the test ride, choose a trekking bike!”.
Now switch to the Category Image tab to store a suitable image for the category.
With OK you can now save your entries.
Exercise: Create the additional categories in JTL-Wawi. Enter the category name and category description and add an image from the Categories folder for each category.
When you have created all the categories, you should have the same category tree as shown on the left. Categories, by the way, can also be filed as subcategories within others, creating an expandable tree. However, you should always keep in mind that if you delete a superordinate category, all categories below it will automatically be deleted or changed as well.
