JTL Shop 5 Marketing

Google Shopping setup for your JTL store

In this JTL Shop 5 Marketing Tutorial we will show you how to connect Google Shopping to your online store. This includes both the automatic transfer of the export template, as well as the setup of Google Search Console, Google Merchant Center and Google AdWords. All this either in our screencast or below in the blog.

JTL Shop 5 Marketing - What to consider

Unfortunately, a visually appealing store is of relatively little use if no one goes to it – which is why you should also focus on marketing in addition to internal store optimization. What to consider for the JTL store 5, we will demonstrate in a small info series.

Installing the Google Shopping Plugin

We will start with the Google Shopping feed for the JTL store. That means you want to transfer your items from the store to Google Shopping automatically. We will now show you how to do this. Step one is to book the Google Shopping plugin in the JTL extension store. Enter “Google Shopping” as a search term, click on the first result and finally on “Check out now”. You have to log in with the account you use for the customer center. Then go to “Order now”. After that, we go to the JTL Shop 5 backend to “My Purchases”, which can be found in the plugin section and for you, there would then be a button here labeled “Install”. Click on it and you will see the Google Shopping plugin among the installed plugins. Here you can make detailed adjustments to export attributes, feature mapping or export files for additional languages.
Let’s leave this in the factory settings and now take care of the export of the data feed.

Manage export formats in JTL Shop 5

To view our export formats, we go to Export and Other Formats in Administration. By installing the plugin, the export format for Google Shopping was already created automatically. If you want to customize it, click on the edit icon and configure the format. This then defines what exactly is exported and how, for example. the file name has to be. This will become important later for the setup in Google.
Now it is up to you whether you want to create a store campaign. But it would be advisable, because you can use it to monitor the results of the Google Shopping campaign within your JTL Shop 5.

JTL Shop 5 Marketing - Create campaign in the store

You can create them in the Marketing section under Statistics and Campaigns. To do this, click Create new campaign and enter the required data.
You will need to specify a campaign name, enter a campaign parameter, as well as make other settings for the campaign value. Of course, at the end still set this active and save.
Now that you have ensured that you can also monitor the success or failure of your Google Shopping campaign, we come to the actual export.

Manual and automatic export

We will show you two variants – first the manual one. To do this, go back to Export and click on Other Formats and then click on the Plus icon to create a new export file. The successful creation is also directly illustrated to you and gives you now the possibility to download this file.
Variant two is therefore the automatic method using task planners. This can be managed in the export manager.
We want to create a new task, assign our export format and can now determine when the first export should occur and in which cycle it should be repeated. Once this task is created, we would also be done with the JTL part. However, we would like to point out in advance that success on Google Shopping is extremely dependent on product data quality.
That is, maintain your item descriptions, item descriptions, as well as other relevant item data in advance. If you want to inform yourself about this, we recommend our JTL Shop 5 playlist, which we have linked to the top right.

Google Search Console / Google Merchant Center / Google AdWords

The second part of this video is the setup in Google Search Console, Google Merchant Center and Google Ad-Words. Linking the store to Search Console is very simple and is explained in detail when you go to the corresponding page. The whole thing should then look like this in the end. In the top left corner your domain is displayed and in the middle you can see the dashboard. If this is the case, we set up the Google Merchant Center. Log in there and go to Products in the left column. We choose the right field, select our country and the desired language and continue. Give the feed a name and specify schedule as the delivery method. This schedule must now be created. We want the handover to take place at 12 noon every day. Furthermore, the correct time zone must be set, the file name entered and the file URL.
This is composed of your domain and at the end “/export/googleshopping.zip. Now your feed will be retrieved.
After that, all you have to do is go to All Campaigns in Google Adwords, create a new campaign, and configure it according to the Google Assistant’s specifications.
