JTL-Wawi 1.6 Carton management - create cartons as articles

This article is also about a completely new feature of JTL-Wawi 1.6, namely the creation of boxes as articles. In the 1.5 this was not yet possible, ergo an explicit cardboard management was also not possible. This is inconvenient at the very moment when your employees are standing at the packing table and have nothing to pack. To make sure that doesn’t happen, we’ll show you the current state of cardboard management in this blog.

Do you already know the "JTL-Software User Community" ?

By the way, if there is no blog article about one of your eBakery concerns, we recommend the JTL Software User Community Facebook group. With well over 4,000 members, consisting of merchants, JTL experts, but also JTL newbies, the probability is high that your problem has already been addressed. If not, post your concern and you will definitely get help. However, if your problem is of a more complex nature, we will be happy to help you as a JTL service partner.

Create boxes in JTL-Wawi

What we can help you with immediately is the cardboard management, so go to the Wawi. The first official act is the creation of a new category, which you then ideally also call “boxes”. In this now once two articles are created. We name them “Carton S” and “Carton L”. In both of them we are going to enable inventory management, this is important, so check the box here as well. What is new now, that your article is also recognized as cardboard box, is the identification as article type: cardboard box. This can be selected in the “Other” tab. Save at the end, go back into the detail view and post a stock. We select 200 boxes once and press “Apply”. Now we book the whole thing and make the final posting. This completes the creation of cartons in JTL-Wawi.

JTL-Wawi 1.6 Carton management - link shipping type with carton size

What we now want to do in step 2 is to link a shipping method with the selection of a carton size. That’s why we go into the “shipping types” under “Shipping”. We now see the box management at the bottom right here. This means we can now assign a box size to each shipping type. Once we have selected both, we click on “Standard”. This also completes step 2 – the assignment. Now we create a new order, select any product and choose the shipping method “parcel service”. What we see now is that the assigned box size is automatically selected for this. Once the order has been created, we subsequently classify it as “paid” so that we can then pack it in packing table + and send it off. No sooner said than done, so off to JTL Packing Table +. By the way, if this is not yet available to you, you can easily book a free license in the JTL Customer Center under Wawi and Modules, which is then activated if you have also entered the license key in JTL ERP under “Licenses”.

Processing in JTL packing table +

Once you have logged into JTL Packing Table +, select the order you have just created. You will then see that the correct carton size is displayed. Uses this and when the item has been packed, click on “Pack”. This also completes the last 3 steps, so to speak.
Now our last step is to check if a carton has been deducted in JTL-Wawi. So back to the “boxes” category and as we can see instead of 200 there are only 199. So you can easily manage your cartons in JTL-Wawi 1.6 and thus no longer come into the unfavorable situation of having no more cartons in stock.
