JTL Packing Table+ vs. JTL WMS

What are the differences?

JTL Packing Table+ vs. JTL WMS – What are the differences?
You are an online retailer and are considering JTL-Wawi as your eCommerce ERP system, but you don’t know whether JTL-Packtisch+ would be enough for you as a Wawi extension or whether you are better equipped with JTL-WMS. We explain the differences and recommend which is more suitable for whom.

JTL Packing Table+ vs. JTL WMS - What is suitable for whom?

In today’s episode, we want to follow up on the previous one, which was about JTL-Wawi, among other things, which we contrasted with Xentral’s ERP system. But it should not be primarily about the Wawi, but also about JTL-WMS the warehouse management system from JTL. We already said that JTL-Wawi is free of charge and you can also book JTL-Workflows, JTL-Ameise and JTL-Packtisch+. But what is it anyway?

JTL packing table+ explained

We can already see from the JTL software page that it is an add-on module for JTL-Wawi, which can speed up and simplify the shipping process. Both when picking, as well as when packing and shipping. This is achieved by pick lists and a customized user interface. The advantages of this are the possibility to expand your warehouse by adding more packing tables and employees and coordinating them via Packing Table+. But then there is also a standalone warehouse management system called JTL-WMS. When do you need what?

JTL Packing Table+ vs. JTL WMS - With a large warehouse, the standalone warehouse software is recommended.

Stephan Handke has already summarized this very well in the JTL WMS interview.
If you are a small retailer who sends 50 – 100 parcels per month and have a correspondingly small warehouse, so you can do without simplifications such as path-optimized picking, then the free Packing Table+ module is sufficient for you. If you’re scaling and then you’re talking about 3000, 4000, 5000 packages a day, then we strongly advise you to use WMS. The biggest difference between the two systems is that with JTL-WMS you always know where your goods are located. You can mix the goods per bin and you can distribute one item to as many bins as you like. This is not possible in the form with packing table+.

JTL Packing Table+ vs. JTL WMS - Advantages and Disadvantages

But this in turn gives rise to the possibility of path-optimized picking, which is an enormous time-saver for large warehouses. With the packing table+ you only know which quantity of what is still available, but not at which storage location it is located. One difficulty that arises with JTL-WMS again is the complexity. The first license is free for JTL-WMS, but you definitely need time and the will to learn. Or you can look for a JTL service partner who will teach and explain it to you efficiently. Then you don’t need to familiarize yourself with the help of the documentation. This is very extensive but also detailed, so you will really find everything you need there. Stephan Handke’s comment, however, is “…that it takes more than 10 read-throughs of the doc to fully understand the WMS.”

JTL Packing Table+ vs. JTL WMS - The Conclusion

So what can we conclude. Clearly, the motto is once again test, test, test. JTL Packing Table+ as an extension module for JTL-Wawi is completely free of charge. JTL-WMS for the first license as well. Per additional user you pay 99€ per month and can even use JTL-WMS Mobile for only 49€. So at the end of the day, no clear recommendation can be made. If you are just starting out, have the time to learn JTL-WMS and are sure that your business will scale, you should go for it. However, if you already know JTL-Wawi and simply want to integrate an additional module because you have a small warehouse and lack the time, you will also notice a significant simplification with Packtisch+.
