JTL Hosting with a Cloud

Andreas from ecomDATA explains in this video how to bring your JTL-Wawi database to the cloud. Hosting JTL Wawi, JTL Shop and other stores – this is what ecomDATA specializes in! That’s how easy it is to transfer the JTL-Wawi database to the cloud.

JTL-Wawi

If you are an online retailer, you surely know how important a well-functioning inventory management system is. With the merchandise management system from JTL, you can control all work processes centrally from one place. Orders, invoice processing, inventory or data maintenance, with JTL-Wawi you can easily control and manage all sales channels. Do you use JTL-Wawi and want to know how to bring enterprise resource planning to the cloud? ecomDATA is an expert in hosting and can explain to you exactly how easy this process actually is.

Create backup

To bring JTL-Wawi into the cloud, there are several options. First of all, of course, you can hire an expert like ecomDATA to do it for you. After many years of experience, such a service partner can handle this job quickly and professionally. However, if you would like to learn more about the subject or try it yourself, there are a few steps to follow. First of all, it is necessary to create a backup of your current database. The best way to do this step is directly with Microsoft Management Studio. Simply right-click on the database and select Create Backup.

7-zip and FTP

Next you need to compress the database. To ensure that the database transfer process to the cloud does not take too long, the database backup created earlier is compressed using an application such as 7-zip. This is important to minimize the size of the file. In the next step, you need to transfer the database that was zipped in the previous step to the cloud using a transfer program. An easy way to handle this step is with FTP. FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol and means file transfer method. It allows to exchange files between different computers. So you can start e.g. Filezilla, a client software for file transfer via FTP, on your PC, connect to the cloud server and transfer the database to the cloud server.

Import database and customize firewall

So you can unpack and import the database. To do this, simply unzip the zipped database again with 7-zip and restore the file with MS Management Studio. Now that the database is imported, you need to adjust the firewall settings. To allow external access to the database, the SQL port must be entered in the Windows firewall. The Microsoft SQL Server is a relational database management system and only has external access with the correct firewall settings. What you should definitely keep in mind is to perform this step only after the security of the server has been ensured. For example, after changing the SA password and activating SSL encryption.

Add database connection

In the last step, the correct database connection must be added to the locally installed ERP system. This is easily done via the database management in JTL-Wawi itself. To do this, simply enter the new server name, username and PW. This completes the transfer. If you are facing this process, you can be successful even without sound technical knowledge. However, always keep in mind that a good hosting partner knows all the relevant settings very well and can also support you in case any problems arise.
