New functions for JTL-WMS
Many development steps of the hotly anticipated version 1.6 of JTL-WMS are already completed. We have already heard in another post what all is planned for JTL-WMS. Now there’s concrete info from Stephan Handke – read and listen to what’s in it here.
The scale interface gets its own free license
The license can be activated free of charge via the customer center, but is then necessary from JTL-WMS 1.6.
JTL-WMS Mobile becomes independent
In the future, you can use JTL-WMS Mobile directly with JTL Packing Table+ and JTL-Wawi Standard Warehouse, without JTL-WMS. Among other things, this allows you to implement a mobile inventory independently of JTL-WMS.
Cardboard management
You can track which box (size) or shipping bag the order was shipped in. They appear in JTL-Wawi like normal items and can be reordered from a certain threshold.
Identical orders
Large quantities of orders with the same content, for example for trade fairs or specific marketing campaigns, can be delivered at once. Previously, each order always had to be packed individually. Now all this is possible with one click via a new goods issue process for JTL-WMS “Identical orders”.
New printer management in JTL-WMS and JTL-WMS Mobile
Each mobile worker can have their own printer on their belt, for example for item labels or warehouse labels. Another scenario is different trays on a large printer with different paper qualities. Example: B2B invoices for good customers are printed on nicer paper, B2C on good and pick lists on recycled paper.

“Contains” search comes back
In JTL-WMS Mobile, many merchants have missed a wildcard function to find not only exactly this one searched item, but also similar sounding ones. This feature now comes back with version 1.6.
Rolling picking
In Rolling Picking, it has been necessary so far to confirm each item per order once when picking and once when filling it into the shipping box. A new function will be added to the rolling order picking, which will make it possible, for example, to Pick 12 pieces of an item and then distribute them among up to 12 orders, each with its own box. This can save many additional clicks.
More wishes from the JTL-Issue Tracker
JTL has been doing Community Driven Development since the beginning. Accordingly, wishes from the JTL-Issue Tracker have also been incorporated into the new version:
- GS1-128, or EAN128 barcodes will be usable.
- Mobile inventory without preparation, also random/rolling inventory.
- Box management with one click. Packing out of the box directly, so far this is three steps.
Nice innovations for smaller dealers
- Save yourself the scanner – from version 1.6 you can also use your smartphone camera as a barcode scanner.
- Of course, professional scanners are still much faster, but it is possible to use the smartphone as well.
- Better recognition of free text items when the item is not in the assortment. An item can therefore be shipped without having to create it in the system beforehand.
Small change, big effect
- Incoming scan only asks for batch and MHDs if the first scan result is not clear.
- Own picklists number ranges – especially with a lot of shipments this brings much more clarity.
- Movement history and returns search become faster. You can filter the search result as you like and export it directly with JTL-WMS as it is currently displayed.
- EazyShipping was basically reprogrammed to greatly improve performance.
- Process returns directly with JTL-WMS Mobile. Your employee simply goes to the returns, scans the items and, as in JTL-WMS, can also select the return reason or item condition and then store the item directly in a shelf.
Logbook for the JTL WMS Mobile Server
JTL-Wawi 1.6 comes with a logbook for the JTL-WMS Mobile Server to better track errors. Currently, this is not possible, so if the app refuses to work, it is complicated to get the real error message. This function also helps you with support requests.
Transfer settings for MDE devices or JTL-WMS Mobile easier
You can transfer settings from MDE devices to new devices via QR code. After an update or new purchase, everything has to be entered by hand so far. IP, dashboard view, etc. can now be easily distributed to many devices.
The JTL WMS Mobile App comes new for each major version, 1.5, 1.6, etc., because it is more maintainable and smaller. Here you can also adopt the settings similarly in the future.
New possibilities for picklists
Up to now, you have a maximum of 15 quickbuttons available for picklists. This limitation is removed, you can create as many picklists as you want in the future. These will also be much more configurable, for example color or utility. For example, you can have order-specific pick lists created for production, and then route-optimized lists for collective picking.
The automatically output documents will also get freely selectable templates.

Make serial numbers traceable in JTL WMS
What has been confusing and sometimes difficult to track in the system is now to be improved. The extensive work for this is expected to start in the second quarter of 2020, smaller optimizations will already appear with version 1.6.
Storage Aids (LHM)
Storage bins can be further subdivided. If you use e.g. boxes in a bin that each contain different items, you can move these boxes to other bins in the future. This function is also helpful when using pallets.
JTL-Wawi batch management
When is which batch where? The database already contains this data, but it is not yet readily apparent. Although the database is open and you could program a view for it. But the desire here is clearly to display that natively.
New shipping point process
If the employee fills different carts for shipping service providers and parcels up to now, this is to run in the future in such a way that only one order barcode is issued for the order. The package is then taken to a central shipping location, such as the truck bridge, where another employee places it in the shipping service provider’s respective truck.
The packer is therefore relieved and can pack more.
Automate shipping calculator
Here, costs can be saved further by the calculator calculating which shipping service provider is the cheapest based on the desired goods. Domestic, foreign and German islands play just as much a role as the dimensions and weight of the package. Exclusion criteria will also be possible, as each service provider has maximum weight and size specifications.
So far, this has been possible as a workflow, but it should now also be possible natively. In the course of this, this data should also be displayed directly to the customer when he places his order.
Procurement 2.0
A central warehouse regulates supplies for several locations. These will then be supplied correctly. This allows regularly reordered goods to be automated.
Classification of the storage bins
To further optimize walking routes, JTL-WMS Mobile is to suggest routes and storage locations where the goods should best be stored. Goods that are not ordered often can thus be stored further back, while goods that are doing well can be stored further forward.
New license model
JTL packing table+ becomes JTL WMS free. JTL-WMS gets more features for the same price. Existing customers keep everything they have so far. As a new customer or a newcomer, you can then choose from an attractive licensing model which features you really need.
Connection to robot systems
When a customer order comes in, it should be automatically delivered to the picker by a robot. This means that no employee has to run through the warehouse and collect the individual parts.
API for JTL WMS
An API is planned for JTL-WMS to be usable with other merchandise management systems. This was a big request from the community, as many merchants already have a Wawi that their staff is trained on. However, in order to now take advantage of JTL-WMS, they do not want to retrain all of their employees. JTL will therefore provide an API so that other systems (not only ERP systems!) can work with JTL-WMS.
Another great balancing act between function and usability
JTL’s claim is, as before, that although there is a lot to configure, beginners should also be able to manage it well.
