JTL-Wawi vs. Xentral - An overview
Today’s episode is about the comparison of two eCommerce ERP systems. On the one hand JTL-Wawi from the eponymous company JTL-Software and on the other hand the Xentral ERP system. We want to see in which points both are similar, but also how far both differ. To start with, I would like to make a few recommendations which videos make sense to have watched before to understand what an ERP system is, what JTL-Wawi is and what Xentral offers as features all. On the one hand, we have already written an article about free ERP systems for you. In it, we also define what an eCommerce ERP system is. On the other hand, we have an 86 video strong ERP comparison playlist in which we have taken a close look at ERP systems from JTL Software, Xentral, Vario and Afterbuy. But now to the facts. How long have the respective systems been in existence?
JTL-Wawi vs. Xentral - What is JTL-Wawi?
JTL’s merchandise management system has been around since the beginning of the millennium. First only hobby-like as a friend service developed, this was however constantly developed further and got 2007 then finally the name JTL. The official foundation of JTL-Software GmbH then took place on 1.1.2008. Also in 2008, the development of the Xentral origin began. Initially only intended as a separate solution for business requirements, this was steadily developed further until it was decided in 2017 to found the “Xentral ERP Software GmbH”. But what is Xentral exactly? Xentral also sees itself as ERP cloud software that bundles all business processes centrally in this software. So from classic processes in online retail, to production, to accounting matters. If we take a look at the interfaces that have been available so far, I think that leaves very few wishes unfulfilled. Store systems such as Shopware, WooCommerce, Shopify, but also Oxid, PrestaShop and Magento can be connected to the software.
JTL-Wawi vs. Xentral - What is Xentral?
It looks similar with JTL-Wawi. As you can see, in the JTL Customer Center all of the above are also connectable to JTL-Wawi thanks to the JTL Connector. But not only store systems can be connected to the JTL merchandise management system. With the secure multichannel solution Unicorn 2 from marcos software, you can also easily connect marketplaces such as OTTO Market, Kaufland, ManoMano or Etsy to your eCommerce ERP system. Xentral knows how to convince with a sophisticated CRM system for flawless communication between customers and retailers. On the other hand, what both have to offer in order to outsource capacities and ultimately be able to offer you more extensive support is the partner program, in which cooperation partners or service partners, who are very familiar with the systems, support you in dealing with the software problems.
What features do both cover?
If we look at the eCommerce specific features that Xentral provides, it becomes clear that the basics of an eCommerce ERP system are covered, but the whole thing goes beyond the basics. Of course, article data can be integrated and maintained in the central system, the entire ordering process can be automated – from purchasing to backorder management, and logistical parameters can be viewed quickly and easily – regardless of whether the company has its own warehouse, fulfillment warehouse or other. The most important shipping service providers such as DHL, DPD and Hermes can also be connected to Xentral and managed. It would take several minutes to list all the points in their entirety. That’s why we have our ERP comparison playlist. But let’s switch over to JTL. Again, we see that the same points are feasible. From product range management, purchasing and sales, to customer management. And if a criterion can not be covered by the Wawi alone, there is now a JTL product universe placed around JTL Wawi. Wherefore the cash register system JTL-Pos, the connectivity modules JTL-Connect, the Amazon and eBay management unit eatyAuction, the powerful warehouse management JTL-WMS, about which, by the way, we have shot a separate video series with Stephan Handke.
How much does JTL-Wawi cost?
As you can see, both systems leave nothing to be desired. Another criterion with which JTL software stands out is its own store system JTL-Shop, which recently brought out features such as the OnPage Composer or improved responsiveness with the new 5 version. The latter is especially important in 2021 since Google is putting more emphasis on content for smartphones and tablets through Core Web Vitals. However, what again applies to both systems is scalability. Both JTL-Wawi and Xentral are intended for small startups, but also medium – large companies. Huge corporations of a certain size will probably prefer SAP, but that’s not what this video is about. Especially those who want to grow in eCommerce are well advised to use both systems presented here. Presumably, especially for companies that are just starting up, an important criterion that we haven’t touched on yet is price.
As you can see for yourself, JTL’s ERP system can be used free of charge for an unlimited period of time. But then you have to take care of the hosting yourself. This then also includes JTL packing table + JTL workflows and JTL ant. Three tools that will help you time bulk import, pack and return, and data import and export. So the barrier to entry is very, very low. Do you then want to make use of the support or, for example. JTL store 5 with over 500 items use this is of course chargeable. But the Wawi alone is free to use. Therefore, our tip to you – test.
