How to perform the JTL Major Update correctly
How you can update JTL-Wawi 1.5 to 1.6 and especially what to consider in advance, you will learn in our tutorial. We will show you how to create a database backup and how to perform the JTL major version update. All this in this video.
Update JTL-Wawi 1.5 to 1.6 - How to perform the Major Update
In this article, we want to make you aware of what to consider during a major update, how it works and how you should approach it. First of all, a short note: If your problem has not yet been solved in our videos, one place to start would be the JTL Software User Community group on Facebook. With well over 4,000 members, which consists of merchants, JTL experts, but also JTL newbies, the probability is high that other merchants there have also already had a similar problem. But now to the key points to consider when updating.
Perform database backup
As you can see we are currently still on the 1.5 version. There we go to Start and Database. Now we confirm the hint with Yes that JTL-Wawi is closed to get to the database. You will be redirected to the database administration where you have to enter your database password. As a short hint, before you create your backup, the JTL worker should be switched inactive. Now you go to the right client, since there is only one in our company, the choice is not too big. We want to perform a DB export, i.e. a data backup. Now just specify the desired destination folder and enter the desired name of the backup file. We leave it like this and click on “Start”. This way we are on the safe side and have a backup in case of need.
Start JTL-Wawi 1.6 installation
Now we go to the download page of JTL, which we already mentioned in the blog. before and download the 1.6. If you use Windows as operating system you can start the .exe file there directly, otherwise transfer it to your server, on which your 1.5 Wawi is installed. Then open it as admin and go through the normal installation. So start the setup wizard with “Next”, accept the license agreement, leave the checkmark in there, this will also install Microsoft Edge WebView 2, which we need. Then select the folder where the whole thing should be installed and press “Install” at the end. Now our JTL ERP 1.5 version updated to the latest 1.6 Open Beta. This is also relatively quick, but what will take a little more time is the database update. But first we open the Wawi again with our desktop shortcut and see that it is up to date.

We log in and can read through the changelogs, i.e. what new features we can expect. Once we have done that, we check that the “Performance Optimization” checkbox is checked and click on “Start Update Now” at the end. This, in turn, may well take some time depending on the size of the database. That’s why we let the whole thing run its course. Get a coffee while you’re at it. When you have finished the drink and are fit again, you will see this window. Inevitably, you will also need to read through all the database update information in order to proceed. So do that at that point and then click “Ok”. Then you will see that you will be logged in automatically. Now click through the innovations.
