Shopware 6 Add additional fields GLOBAL

We show you how to do it

How you can add additional fields globally in Shopware 6, for example to fill all products with this value.
In this Shopware tutorial, we will show you how to add additional fields globally in Shopware 6, for example to fill all products with this value.
To do this, it is necessary to create an individual export profile in order to export the additional field in the data export.
This can then be duplicated as required in the CSV file, which will save you an enormous amount of time. See more in the video.

We answer questions from viewers

We were asked under our “Shopware 6 additional fields” video: Is it possible to add the additional field globally?
This question can be interpreted in two ways, we show you both variants and thus answer the question in this video.

What are the Shopware 6 additional fields?

Let’s move on to the additional fields in Shopware 6.
If you haven’t seen this episode, here’s a brief definition.

The additional fields offer you the option of adding your own fields for the different program areas in order to store your own information here.
For example, you can enter your own additional information for products or categories that is not yet available in the standard system and then use it in the Rule Builder or display it in the storefront.

However, if you have a lot of products, you would have to enter the content of the additional fields for each product individually.
This takes time, which is why we received this comment.
This means that we want to transfer the value of the additional field to several products, which would be interpretation number 1.

Add Shopware 6 additional fields globally - variant 1

To do this, we first go to the settings, but this time to the system settings and click on “Additional fields”.
You can find out exactly what an additional field set is in this video here, which we have also linked again.
We create a new one and name the set “custom_tutorial”, then assign the position 1 and name it Tutorial below.
Now we have to be careful.
If the question was about how to add the same field globally for several areas, then this is the solution.
This set can be used for products, categories, manufacturers, customer data, etc.
To demonstrate this right away, let’s simply select products and customers.
Now we save.
With the newly created set, we can create a new additional field after saving below.
We select a text field as the type and name it again below.
Placeholder and help text is not mandatory.
Finally, we click on Add and then save one last time.

Check additional fields in the products

Now let’s check what has changed.
First, we go into the products and edit any one of them.
Under “Specifications” we find the additional fields at the bottom.
We will need this in a moment.
Now let’s go to the customer area and click on our test customer.
Here we can see that the additional field is also available here.
So if you want to integrate the additional fields globally for several areas, then this is the solution.
However, if your aim is to transfer a value that you enter in an additional field to all products, then pay close attention.
We have now entered a value here in the product “Main article CHANGE”, as you can see, and saved it.
To check, we go into another product and see that the additional field is there, but not the “test value”.
We now want to change this.
If you have seen our last video, you may already have an idea of how to do this.
If not, it’s worth watching it again to really get to know and understand the import/export module.

Shopware 6 Add additional fields globally - Import / Export

So we go back to our settings, but this time in the store area under Import/Export.
The important thing here is that we modulate a profile.
We have already prepared this.
However, to create a new one, you would click on “Add new profile” or you can also duplicate and edit an existing profile by clicking on these three points.
We click on our test profile that we have created from scratch.
As you can see, this is the object type: “Product”.
Accordingly, these values already existed.
What we have only added by clicking on “Add new mapping” is this one.
You can choose any CSV name you like, the only important thing is the database entry.
This should be called “translations.DEFAULT.customFields”.
Once you have added this, save it again.

Add Shopware 6 additional fields globally - final check

We now want to export our products as a CSV file.
To do this, we go to Export, select our test profile, leave out the variants for the video and click on Start export.
We then download the CSV file and open it.
As you can see, there is only one entry for the “Additional field” area for the product “Main article CHANGE”.
If you now want to transfer this entry to all other products, copy this column and insert it globally for the other products.
Now you just need to save the file as a CSV file again.
We are then back in our import/export module and now import this CSV.
We use the same profile again and click on Start import.
As this appears to have been successful, we should now find the “Test value” in the additional field in all products.
And as we can see, this is the case.
You can use the same procedure for products, customer data, categories, etc. to customize additional fields globally.
