Shopware 6 Import/Export Module - Transfer data easily

For a long time there was no Shopware blog here, which we now want to change with this episode. For all the newer subscribers and viewers, let’s note again that we have already gone through all the basic features of Shopware 6. From article creation, to experience worlds, to shopware marketing. So feel free to take a look at our playlist, which we have linked to you in the upper right corner. But now let’s take a closer look at the Import/Export module. This is also used to import and export products, customers, categories, orders, properties and so on. This could be e.g. be interesting for those who do not want to work with an ERP system, because they may not have too many items in the store, but now want to transfer them and do not want to create each individual again. Another case would be if you use Shopware 6 and want to have your data analyzed by evaluation tools in order to optimize your store. Exports would then be the means of choice for this.

There you can find the module

You can find both in the settings of your backend under Import/Export. This module is also relatively simple in structure and is divided into only three sub-tabs: Import, Export and Profiles. A profile determines which database entries are accessed for both import and export. By default, we already have predefined profiles, from which we now select the default profile for products. As a prophylactic measure, we have already downloaded a sample CSV, which looks like this. All necessary parameters are available: Product number, price, description, etc. What you should change in advance is the tax_id, because it will most likely be different for your store. You can easily check whether this is the case by going to the tax settings in your store. Also select the 7% tax rate and in the URL bar at the very end you will see the Tax ID. You can copy them here and save the document. In the backend you then select the respective profile and upload the CSV file. With one article you can start the import directly, with several you should first see if they are compatible and start a test run. In the lowest window you can see the current progress and so it does not take long until the successful import is confirmed. Now when we look in the catalog, we also see that our test item is there.

Shopware 6 Import/Export Module - Create New Profile

The counter-process – i.e. export – works just as easily. We also select the default profile for products again. By the way, it is also possible to determine whether the child or only the parent article should be exported for variant articles, which can be influenced with this toggle switch. Again, we can see the current progress and then download the export file from the context menu. If the default profiles are not enough for you and you want to change them or create completely new profiles, you can do that in the third tab. Here already existing profiles can be duplicated and modified or as we will do now, new profiles can be created. This requires a name and must be assigned to an object type, e.g. Product. Then it must be determined whether the profile is an import or export profile or both. Finally, it is determined which character is used as separator character and which character is used as enclosing character for e.g. the text. name is to be used. If we click on “Next”, in the next step we will be given the option to upload a CSV sample file, based on which the template for the profile would be created. If we want to do this manually, we skip the upload and see here the minimum requirements that must be present. The CSV name can be customized and assigned to a database record. If we want to add a new mapping, we can click the button for it and assign all the parameters. An example would be the database entry “manufacture” for “manufacturer”. But we don’t want it at the beginning, we want it at the very end. Therefore, we could change the position and add our profile. As we can see, this is then also available for import.
