Shopware 6 Search

How to configure the search in Shopware

We will show you how to configure the Shopware 6 search in the following tutorial. This is extremely important so that your customers can find the desired product quickly and easily and do not buy elsewhere out of desperation. That’s why we’ll show you the Shopware 6 search settings in detail and explain the respective parameters.

Improve Shopware 6 search

In order to generate sales in your online store, a basic prerequisite must first be created. The customer must find the desired product. However, there are several ways to get there. The search via the navigation, the searcher via features or the internal search engine. We will now deal with the latter for Shopware 6.
As an online retailer, how can you influence the search, where can you find the settings for this and how can it be improved?

You can find the settings here

This time, let’s start directly in the Shopware 6 backend and go to the settings. Here you will also find the sub-item “Search” in the store area. In the first section of the search settings, 3 parameters can be defined. With the first two, we have an either/or situation. This means that your store is either an “and” search or an “or” search. But what’s the difference?

Shopware 6 search - And search vs. or search

The example here describes it quite well. The And search considers the full keyword and not each word individually.
So for the keyword “jeans summer”, the word “jeans” and “summer” would be considered together. Each word is considered individually in the Oder search. So both jeans and buzzers are considered and not just in combination, which is why this search is also discontinued here. But you can decide that for yourself. You can also determine the minimum length that the keyword must have for the search to work.

Shopware 6 Search - Set searchable content

If we scroll down a little, we can see the searchable content. So if, for example, you want to that not only the product name can be searched for, but also the product meta title, then you would have to activate this here in the search settings. This can be checked with the first column. If the respective content is searchable, this position is given a tick. Is it not a Red Cross. The search algorithms can also be intervened in manually. by assigning ranking scores for the respective positions. If the product name is to be given preference over the product meta title, it should receive a higher ranking score.

Further configurations

Last but not least, you can differentiate for which content a minus notation is accepted. If you check this box, the words separated by hyphens or slashes will be searched for individually. They are therefore not treated as one word, but as several words. If you want to change this, you can click on the three dots at the end of the column and go to Edit.

This is the MOST IMPORTANT rule!

However, the most important rule is that if you have made changes to the search settings, you must always rebuild the search index for these to become active. You will receive the link here and must then click on this button. You will then see the time at which the search is now accessing. The whole thing can then be tested below. All you have to do is select the desired sales channel and enter a possible term in the live search.

Define excluded terms

Finally, we go back to the general settings and scroll all the way down. Here we see the excluded words. These include most prepositions, conjunctions and similes. However, these can also be extended as required by any terms that are to be excluded from the search. To do this, simply click on Exclude search terms, enter it and confirm with the tick.
