Shopware number ranges - A necessary topic

Number ranges are admittedly not an exciting topic in online retailing, but just like the topics of taxes, accounting and co. unfortunately necessary. Therefore, in this video for Shopware 6, we will show you how to manage your existing number ranges, create new ones and also design them according to your ideas from the beginning.

What are number ranges?

What are number ranges actually intended for?
Probably the most important number range is the invoice number range.eis. This involves a fixed sequence of numbers within a group of elements to be ordered, in this case invoices. In Austria, Germany and Switzerland, invoices must have an identification number. This may only be assigned once and is used to make it easier to allocate payments to specific invoices. In addition, invoice numbers must be consecutively numbered in accordance with the Value Added Tax Act. A number range is created from this sequence. But this is not only available for invoices in online commerce, but also for products, delivery bills, credit bills, etc.

Manage Shopware number ranges

We’ll now take a look at where the number ranges can be found in Shopware in the first place. For this we go to the settings and there directly in the store area to “Number ranges”. You can see that the default number ranges are already created.
Nevertheless, we could now go into the invoice number range and customize it to our liking.
In the case seen here, the numbers would start at 1000 and continue sequentially. This means that there is no prefix and also no suffix, i.e. no designation before or after the number. However, if you want to have this, because you want to use e.g.. operates several stores and thus also has several invoice number ranges, then you can use here as a prefix e.g. “SW” insert. You then get a direct reflection of how the whole thing would look in the form of a preview. However, if you want to individualize the number range even further, you can activate the extended mode. This gives you the possibility to extend the number range by means of variables, for example. by the current date.

Shopware number ranges - The different types

If you were to create a new number range, it would also be possible to define it type-specifically. What is noticeable here is that we cannot create a new number range for our products. If we go back and look at our current product number range, we can see why. That is why there are the different types.
