Free Google Shopping Entries

Reach more clientele with free entries

It sounds like a headline from ancient times – free Google Shopping listings. Before 2012, this was indeed the case, because for the first 10 years, Google Shopping ads were free. However, under certain conditions you can get free ads again. In this article you will learn how to do that.

Free Google Shopping listing - Requirements

The prerequisite is that you already use Google Ads. Google then gives you the other ads as a gift so that you get more reach. You can, as usual, in the
Google Merchant Center
control the ads the way you like.

The control also includes that you can choose on which price comparison portals your ads should appear.

For new merchants who don’t use Google Shopping yet, Google is working out a process for how they too can get the free ads. Then the ads will be displayed not only as normal articles, but also prominently in the paid advertising section.

Free Google Shopping listing - chances of success

It’s clear that more ads create more reach and you reach more potential customers, but are there reliable figures yet?

The whole system is still relatively fresh, in April the first stage was launched in the US and since July the ads are also displayed in the normal Google search. Google says that retailers have seen twice as many impressions and about 50% more website visitors this way. Of course, these are big numbers, and it remains to be seen how the whole thing will play out in Germany – the function has only been activated since mid-October.

However, there are no pitfalls, strange clauses or the like. So no matter how high the chances of success really are in the end, there is no reason not to.

Why are there free Google Shopping listings?

On the one hand, Google wants to give retailers affected by Corona a helping hand and drive digitization forward. Apparently, however, this is also an attack on Amazon, because customers are provided with a wider variety of products with the free offer. This in turn attracts more customers, making Google Shopping more attractive and retailers earn more again.

However, Google wants to offer premium services in the future, such as more prominent placements in the results. These are then to be subject to a charge. So Google isn’t completely giving up on the financial aspect, it’s just shifting it a bit.

Let us set up Google Shopping for you

Small and medium-sized retailers in particular are expected to benefit from these measures. So if you’re already using Google Shopping, we’ll check where else we can optimize your Google Shopping feed to get better conversions.

If you don’t have Google Merchant Center access yet, we’ll be happy to set it up for you and optimize your feed for immediate success. As soon as the free ads are available for new merchants and the onboarding process on the part of Google has been completed, we will set up the other ads for you so that you can really get started.
