How do I create a subshop in Shopware?

Shopware comes up with good features. Among other things, because of the ease of creating additional stores, we like to set up so-called subshops as a certified Shopware agency.

Read about the possibilities of a subshop and how you can set it up in no time here.

What is a Shopware Subshop?

Shopware distinguishes between different store types. There is the main store, which is obviously the first one you create. If you want to display it in a different language, but access the same design and item master, you create a language store. Here you can create special customer groups and tax rules.

The third option is the subshop. Suppose you have access to a wholesaler who offers you many different products for sale. You could of course put all the products into one store and then have a very large store. However, if you want to sell cat food and accessories separately from dog food and accessories, for example, you could also create a subshop.

This subshop can optionally

  • have your own (sub-)domain
  • have its own article master
  • get own design
  • get your own language store

What the stores have in common:

  • One basic installation – low maintenance, no new web hosting package
  • Plugin licenses – buy once, use in all stores

If you use a general design, you can use the same design in all stores and just link to other items.

But first you create the store as follows.

How to create a subshop in Shopware 5

You first log into the backend of your (main) store. Here you navigate to “Settings / Basic settings / Shop settings / Shops”. Here you can also manage your other stores after creating them.

The settings are:

  • Store type: Here you choose the subshop
  • Name: Is only important for differentiation in the backend
  • Title: this is the <title> tag, appears in the frontend and is an SEO factor
  • Position: If you create several stores, you can define the order here
  • Host: Here you enter the www address of the store
  • Virtual URL: If the store is in a subdirectory, this must go here.
  • Use SSL: Is mandatory for sensitive data in Germany, but you also need a valid SSL certificate.
  • Hostalias: Here you can define additional domain names for your store, if you have any.
  • Currency and localization should match and really correspond to the desired country.
  • (Document) template: Here you can specify a different template.
  • Active: If you have yet to set up the store, you should disable it until it is ready.

And with that, your store is ready to go. No new installation, no cumbersome tinkering with file uploads or database setups.

Now you can fully concentrate on the content. We are happy to help you set up and maintain your store. If you have an idea, let’s plan together and bring your Shopware store forward. Simply arrange a free preliminary consultation.
