Optimize Google Sitelinks

Maybe you’ve noticed during one of your Google searches that suddenly more links appear within the page under some website results. These are sitelinks that Google considers relevant based on your search. Thus, up to 6 additional results can be displayed:

Google Sitelinks

Google decides which links are displayed here. A separate complex algorithm calculates which pages are helpful for the visitor based on the page structure. While in the past it was still possible to block certain pages in the Google Search Console, Google now evaluates this itself.

So you simply have no way to influence the links that appear.

Influence Google Sitelinks

You can influence the links a bit by building good internal links. This includes informative and compact anchor texts and titles.

This example links our website with the keywords “SEO agency” and “eBakery”.

The second example sets the correct attribute for an image. This way, the page has a better chance of being displayed in the sitelinks. In addition, the title attribute helps to find relevant images for other keywords and thus show up in Google Image Search.

But: Just because the links are there, it is not a guarantee that Google will display them. So they cannot be influenced directly.

Another way to indirectly influence the sitelinks is to link in the main menu, or to link frequently from other internal pages. Google then assumes that this page is particularly important and is more likely to play it out as a sitelink.

In addition to the detailed sitelinks, there are also mini-sitelinks, which are only displayed as a link. These are jump marks within the found document. Especially for very long texts, you should put jump marks in headings and create a table of contents for your readers. Then they can jump right to the jobs they are interested in and additionally they have a chance to appear more prominently in the search results.

Have sitelinks optimized

So, it is indirectly possible to provide better linking and increase the chances of search results being displayed more prominently. If sitelinks appear under your domain, visitors are more likely to click on them.
