Shopware subscriptions

Subscription function for your Shopware store

The Shopware Subscription feature allows you as an online merchant to set up automated recurring orders for your customers. In this Shopware tutorial, you will learn what advantages this offers you and your customers, and how to set it up.

Shopware Subscriptions - Why it is becoming more and more important

One feature that has become increasingly important in recent years is the subscription model. Both in eCommerce and outside. Be it Netflix, Shopware itself, YouTube channel membership or simply subscriptions to digital newspapers. That’s precisely why we’re looking at the Shopware Subscription feature in this video.

Who is the feature for?

But what is the subscription model in the Shopware Shop intended for? One is to increase customer lifetime value. In other words, turning a one-time customer into a regular customer. This can be done e.g. relate to products of everyday life, such as coffee, pet food or other. The same applies to digital goods such as music, TV shows, and content in general. Or on learning content, such as musical instrument courses, video editing courses, or the like. All this would be possible with Shopware, thanks to the subscription feature.

Shopware Subscriptions - Advantages

If you are not convinced yet, here are 3 advantages of subscription models. The process is automated for both sides. The customer books the subscription once and receives the respective good at the desired intervals. Here intervals can be freely selected in Shopware. But we’ll get to that in a moment.
Another advantage for the customer can be discounts for signing up for a longer subscription interval.
And a Shopware specific benefit: Subscriptions can be combined with the Rule and Flow Builder, so you can create custom rules for your subscriptions.
But how does it all work?

How to set up the Shopware subscriptions

You will need to go to the settings, in the store section on subscriptions and create a new plan for you.
Here you must specify the standard data such as the name and description. However, it gets more exciting below that. Here you can apply your rules created in the Rule Builder. This allows the subscription function to be used for example. only be released for a specific customer group. At the very end, the interval can be defined. So the interval should repeat weekly, bi-weekly or monthly. Then you have to select the products for which you want the subscription model to apply. If we now go back one menu further, we see that in addition to the plans we have just created, intervals can also be created quite individually. We can see how that works here.

Create and set the interval

A name must also be assigned here. More interesting here, however, is the frequency. That is, how often the interval should repeat. One day a week, then it would be weekly. But it can also be e.g. be increased to every 5 days. Then the number and days must be specified here as a value. You will then see the preview of the order dates visualized below. When we have saved our new interval called “daily” then. Can we select this in the plan. In the frontend the whole thing looks like this. On the one hand, it is already apparent here that the product is available by subscription. On the product detail page, the customer then has the option of ordering the product once or in the specified subscription.
