Shopware vs. Gambio

The comparison of store systems

In the eBakery online store system comparison this time are Shopware vs. Gambio in the self-hosted version. Which store system is suitable for whom? We give you the answer in the video.

Shopware vs. Gambio - The specialists for the DACH region

One or the other may be surprised, because he thinks this article already exists. We had already compared Shopware Cloud with the Gambio Cloud version. In this blog article, however, we compare both self-hosted variants of both the Shöppinger store system Shopware, and the Bremen store system Gambio. We can see that both are on a par in terms of numbers. They are both primarily represented in the DACH region and both have a similar number of stores.

General facts about Gambio

First of all, a few words about Gambio. The store system has been available on the market for more than 10 years and is constantly being further developed. Basically it is an open source software under GPL/GNU license, but proprietary extensions are also offered to increase the functionality of the standard version. But already the standard version includes all important functions, from layout design, through product management to the integration of payment providers and the creation of invoices. As a German store system, you also have almost no effort to adapt your store to German standards. However, there are also some extensions with which you can integrate more complex things like multichannel, price search engines or logistics integration.

Shopware vs. Gambio - The price plans

What we had already touched upon in the other article was connectivity with ERP systems like JTL-Wawi. You can connect Gambio to the JTL ERP, but only in the self-hosted version, not in the cloud version. But which target group does Gambio serve? Just because of the low cost that we can see here, Gambio is perfectly good as an entry-level shop system. This is also reflected in the intuitive usability. To set up a Gambio store you do not need any programming knowledge. This looks a little different with Shopware. With the cloud version, Shopware now also has a solution for Commerce Starter. The self-hosted variants, however, require programming skills if you want to set up a successful Shopware store. That’s why you usually can’t avoid going to the agency. What is also a positive criterion for many is that Gambio does not come with a freemium pricing plan model like for example. Shopify works. You pay 149€ per year and receive the store system solution and the Gambio Hub as well as 12 months of support. As we find a more than fair price and that without revenue sharing.

The comparison to Shopware

But what now also applies to Shopware? In principle, everything. Shopware can also be connected to JTL-Wawi in the self-hosted version. But what’s more, Shopware is a scalable system, which is a blessing and a curse at the same time. From a performance point of view, this means that the servers have to have a lot more under the hood, which then also costs money. Definitely a big plus is that instead of renting, you can also purchase the Professional or Enterprise plan outright. But there we play in a completely different price league. What you will get, however, can be seen in our full Shopware 6 playlist, which we have linked to you in the upper right corner.
