Google Bot

We explain how Google analyzes your page

The California-based Internet giant has been providing us with accurate search results since 1997. This includes all kinds of websites, online stores and reference books. And countless new ones are added every day, all dealing with the questions and needs of humanity.

How does Google find my page?

The principle has not changed since the early days of the Internet. Either the address is known to someone directly or it is linked on another page. This is how people and also search engines find a website.

For Google, this is the Google Search Console, which you get access to when you sign up for a free Google Search Console account. set up. Your website or online store often already provides a so-called sitemap by default. This sitemap (table of contents) contains all subpages of your main page, i.e. all blog posts, content pages and (for online stores) also all products.

You enter the address of your sitemap into the Google Search Console, which then moves the Google Bot to visit and index your website. This can take a few days, because a lot of new websites are added every day. In addition, the Google Bot regularly comes back to your website and checks for changes.

The registered sitemap will be automatically extended whenever you add new articles or pages to your website. Google periodically retrieves the sitemap and then ranks it for another visit by the Google bot.

What does the Google Bot find?

Since so many new pages and changes arrive at Google every day, Google has restricted the bot somewhat. The Google bot, or Google crawler, has a certain quota of pages that are retrieved for each address it visits. The quota is called “budget” by Google.

If your online store or website contains less than 1,000 subpages (including products), this is usually not a problem. This is simply accepted by the Google Bot. But if you run a large store, it sometimes happens that the budget is not enough. An important factor here is the response time of the server. With a faster server, more pages can be “crawled” so that more products also end up in Google search results. We offer high-performance servers and will be happy to provide you with a suitable offer.

How can the Google Bot crawl more pages?

Other factors are always up-to-date content, as well as incoming links (
Backlinks
).

Fresh content

If you always offer new and up-to-date content, e.g. in the form of a blog that thematically revolves around your products, this moves the Google Bot to stop by more often and catch up with the new content.

The content must also be of high quality and offer the reader added value. Just briefly touching on a topic is no good here – blogposts in the form of instructions are more the way to go.

Backlinks

Backlinks are links to your website that appear on other sites. If you are an expert in your field, you could write articles on other blogs and link to your site there. Here, a good mix of small and large websites plays an important role.

Some time ago, it was still the case that quantity counted. Thus, web pages were created where there were simply links to other pages, but there was no content. This distorted the search result. In the meantime, the Google bot recognizes this and assigns such links to a lower ranking. As a result, the linking page, but also its target, loses reputation. The worse the reputation, the worse the Google ranking.
