Switch to Google Analytics 4

5 reasons why you should switch NOW

Why you should switch to Google Analytics 4 as soon as possible, we explain in the following Google SEO tutorial. We present you 5 reasons to switch from Universal Analytics to the more future-oriented system.

Why you should switch now

But why is the change so important right now?
To understand this, let’s dig a little deeper. Google Analytics has been around since 2005, when Google acquired the analytics software from Urchin Software Corporation. Since then, it has been used to track the customer journey on one’s own website. So how long did the visitor spend on your site? Where did the visitor come from in the first place? What is the bounce rate? Etc. But this did not become easier in the course of technological progress, as now not only desktop devices, i.e. Windows or Macs OS, had to be tracked, but increasingly also smartphones and tablets. To address this, Universal Analytics was introduced in 2013. So what you are most likely currently using if you haven’t switched to Analytics 4 yet. You can still do this until June 30, 2023, when it ends.

Switch to Google Analytics 4 - As of 30.06.2023 is the end

That is, there will be no ongoing transition unless you take care of it yourself. Unfortunately, it is not done with an update either. You need an Analytics 4 property. This means that you have to migrate your data and preferably not before the end of June, otherwise a data gap of the historical data can occur. Although the data should be kept for about 6 months after July 1, but better be safe than sorry, do it now and use both in parallel until then.
In the end, though, there’s no point in burying your head in the sand, it’s a done deal, which means looking ahead and convincing yourself of the benefits of Google Analytics 4. But where do these lie?

Switch to Google Analytics 4 - Improved data processing / Future-oriented / Machine Learning

Reason 2 is improved data processing. This allows you to perform a more comprehensive analysis of your store visitors. It also puts you on a more future-proof system, which means smoother interaction with other Google tools like Google Ads, Big Quere, or Google Data Studio.
Reason number 4 is machine learning: Data gaps can occur due to various causes, which are then closed by machine learning. AndOn the other hand, anomalies can also be detected, i.e. when values outside the credibility interval are found, from which further analyses can then be derived.

No more cookie-based tracking

But what are the results, for example? these data gaps? Google Analytics 4 no longer works cookie based. This, in turn, is the result of the ever-growing data protection debate. Cookieless tracking is possible because the focus is no longer on the session as before, but on the user and his or her behavior. From a data protection perspective, this sounds like a step backwards, but it also has its advantages. The categories, according to which individual profiles are no longer created, but a kind of user groups, have changed in GA4. If gaps occur in the data collections, they are filled by what Google calls “modeling.” As the Machine Learning.
