In this article, you’ll learn why Instagram Story Ads are perfect for your business. Instagram Story Ads are among the most affordable ways to use social media ads, and at the same time, they are among the most powerful and effective tools to run ads. But what are Story Ads anyway and why should you use them?
Instagram Story Ads are ads in the form of an Instagram story, which are placed as a video or photo between the stories of subscribed accounts. Although they are advertisements, they look just like a regular story and are only identified by the “Sponsored” notice. They do not need to be clicked on separately, but appear automatically when clicking through stories. For this reason, Instagram Story Ads get all the attention. They take up the whole screen and fit perfectly into the stories. Advertising in the feed or on other platforms, on the other hand, is usually very obvious and is quickly skipped.
A story is 15 sec long. The average time users spend looking at ads in the feed is 8 seconds. Stories, on the other hand, are usually watched to the end. So instead of sharing a long video in the feed that is only watched for 8 sec, it makes a lot of sense to use 15 engaging seconds. Story Ads also have a simple call-to-action feature – the Swipe Up feature. This function redirects directly from the ad to the linked website. Normally, the Swipe Up feature is only available to Instagram accounts that have more than 10,000 followers. However, with Story Ads, anyone can use it.
If the potential customer likes what they see, they are encouraged to respond to the ad with a “Swipe Up”. Since it is possible to react directly, the advertising is not simply forgotten. Unlike other ads, this is why it often only takes one story ad to get people to click on the website. The Instagram story is a creative format. Lettering, animations, images and videos belong in the story. So creative ads with built-in texts fit perfectly into this format without being distracting. For example, with ads in the feed, the text is usually below the ad. However, everything can be creatively summarized in the stories.
By the way, another advantage of story ads is that the sound is usually already on in videos, since the majority of users watch stories with sound. This is usually not the case with ads in the Instagram feed, since you have to turn on the sound there separately. As with other ads, when you create Story Ads you can specify exactly where you want your ad to be shown and who should see it in the first place. You can make a very precise choice and not only select, for example, the whole of Germany or Austria, but only one city. Age groups, genders and languages can be defined just as specifically.
With analytics, you can track exactly how an ad is performing. This is how you find out what goes down well with your target group and what doesn’t. If you then adjust the next ads, you will increase the success of the advertising. If you want to create a story ad, you should make sure that the format is right. A story is 15 seconds and has a 9:16 portrait format. Instagram compresses videos and photos to a minimum while the quality suffers greatly. But that doesn’t mean that the recording quality doesn’t matter. Nevertheless, you should attach importance to a high image quality during the creation and export the material in a small resolution only afterwards. This is how you get the best quality out of your material. Story Ads are nothing new anymore but still very effective and definitely worth a try. Used correctly, they can make your business goals a reality for very little money.
