Put external links in the story even without 10K followers

In this Instagram tutorial, we’ll show you how you can use the Instagram Story Swipe Up function even if you don’t have 10,000 subscribers and thus add your external links to your online store, the new video or a new product.

Especially for online retailers but also other companies, a solid Instagram reach is only one side of the coin. If we reach people, but they don’t reach our store, or do so only with great difficulty, then no sales will be made. That’s why we want to show you in this video how you can also use the Swipe Up function for your Instagram Stories with a little trick and thus the viewers can easily get to your store page by setting an Instagram Story Swipe Up link.

The conditions you must meet to be able to set the Instagram Story Swipe Up Link

Because we hear this question over and over again, let’s first of all clarify the basics. Why can one person use the Swipe Up function in their Stories, but not the other? Unfortunately, the following criteria must be met in order for you to be able to directly put a link in your Instagram Story, so that people are forwarded to this link via Swipe Up. Your Instagram account must be verified or a business profile and have 10,000 followers. Now, don’t stop reading just because you don’t meet these criteria. There is a method how you can still create a swipe-up link in Instagram. To do this, you do the following.

You’ll create a 60-second video that will either be taken directly to Instagram, highlighting that your new product has launched, or a new video has been released on YouTube. The most important thing to note here is that the link is in the upper left corner.

For example, if you have you don’t necessarily want to present your face in the social media, you can just as well use e.g. a photo of your face. Use Canva. In the video, we have now simply created a 60-second animation on the fly, with which we refer to our latest video. You can use countless templates for free, choose the animation type in the upper left corner, determine the length of the video and then insert font and symbol elements yourself to create your design without prior knowledge. Then we download this here on the top right.

Then we’ll go into our IGTV app, you can easily download it from the App Store. Log in with your account and click on the cross in the upper right corner. You can now select from your media in the lower left corner. We’ll use the animation we just created and click continue with the arrow. We can generate a thumbnail from the video or add one we create ourselves from our media. Then we indicate in the title that the link is below. In the description we leave our link. This can be the new YouTube video, the link to the store or to the item detail page.
Finally, post on IGTV. With this you have created an IGTV post, which you can then also find on your profile page.

So much for the preliminary work. We can now create a new story as usual. You can design them as you like. Either as text only or as video, as inserted graphics, there are no limits for you. It is important to include a call-to-action in any case. This can be e.g. be in the form of a gif. Now you will see the link icon at the top center, which looks like a chain link. We click on it now and see that we are given the option to insert an IGTV post as a swipe up link. We choose our just uploaded IGTV video and send the story. If we now look at the story with another account, we see that at the bottom in the middle, as you know it from 10,000 profiles, there is a hint to upswipe. When you do that, you will be taken directly to the IGTV video. If you now follow the hint, you will be shown the link, which is then also clickable and will ultimately take you to the external video, article or store leads.
