Add Shopify order note
To your shopping cart page
In this tutorial, we’ll show you how to add a field for order notes to your shopping cart page in Shopify. This gives you the opportunity to accept special requests or comments from customers.
The requirements
We are in the Shopify admin area where we first ensure two things. It is important that you have at least 1 product in your store and that at least one of them is in your inventory. So we can tick that off. To be able to edit the shopping cart, we need to go to our theme settings. Here we can customize our active theme.
Add a Shopify order reference - this is how it works
To simulate an online store order, we click on our product and add it to our shopping cart. In the navigation at the top of the Shopify Theme Editor, you can select the respective areas that you want to edit. In our case, the shopping cart. There is currently no information field here to accept special requests and comments from customers. However, if we now click on “Subtotal” in the left-hand column and then on the theme settings, we can activate the shopping cart remarks. This inserts an additional field next to the price and the checkout button.

Let’s save the whole thing and exit the Theme Editor. You can preview the store with this eye here. If you now go back up to the product, put it in the shopping cart and have it displayed, you will see what the customer would see and, in our case, you can see for yourself that the order reference field is now available.
