How to reset your Shopify password

In today’s episode, we’ll show you 3 different Shopify passwords and how to reset them. Because on one hand, there is the main admin account password to log you into your Shopify store. Then it may be that employee accounts exist and they should be reset. And the third password is for the store itself, which for example. must be deactivated if your data is transmitted externally, which is the case with Google Shopping. If you read the article to the end, it will become clearer what is meant in each case.

But now to password #1 – the master password for the admin account. This is entered when you want to sign up on Shopify.com to get into your store. First you have to enter the corresponding e-mail address and then click on “Next” and then on “Forgot your password? Now you have the possibility to reset your password.
A mail will be sent to the email address of this admin account with the following text. To finally reset the password click on the blue button. Now a new browser tab will open where you have to enter your new password twice.

Shopify password reset - What to consider for the new password

As a little tip. Uses cryptic passwords. You can use them e.g. on “lastpass.com” can be created automatically.
Otherwise, any other cryptical password generator that Google search spits out will do.
We recommend using a password with the length of 16 characters. Furthermore, Shopify itself shows you once again whether your password is strong, i.e. secure, or weak, i.e. rather insecure.
Now you have to click on “Reset password” one last time and then you can log in with this new password. This way you will also receive direct feedback that everything has worked and that a new password has been stored for the admin account.

Employee password reset

If you have already created employee accounts and want to ask them to reset their password, you can do so as follows. In the backend, go to “Settings” and “Users and permissions”. Select the employee you want to ask here. From here, you can send the password reset instructions to the employee’s email.

However, not in the settings but in the store area under configurations to find, is the frontend password for the store, if this is at all currently active with you. It’s not with us. If you want to change this, check this field and enter an appropriate password. After saving, only people who know this password will have access to your store.
