Shopify Google Shopping Setup - How to do it

If you are an online retailer in a highly competitive industry, you will hardly be able to avoid Google Shopping in the long run to gain visibility and generate enough sales. That’s why we explain in this video how you can use your Shopify product data for Google Shopping. What is Google Shopping?

But now, as usual, a brief explanation of what Google Shopping actually is. If you simply enter a product-based keyword in the search bar, for example “Winter Shoes”, you will find a Google Shopping box at the top. So this is more or less shopping based Google Ads. If you now click on a result, you will see that you will be redirected to the store. That means you have to provide your data from the store via product data feed. These are checked by Google and can then be viewed in the Google Merchant Center and advertised in Google Ads as a shopping campaign.

Shopify Google Shopping - What you need

So let’s keep in mind.we need a Shopify Shop Domain, a Google Account incl. Google Merchant Center. This must be linked to Google Ads.
So much for the basics. However, what helps us immensely for Shopify to not have to manually create a product data feed is the “Google Channel” extension available for download from the Shopify App Store. As you can see, it can be used to transfer your products and create Smart Shopping campaigns. Once you have downloaded the app, it will also be located here as a sales channel in the Shopify backend.

These are the criteria your Shopify store must meet

Your store must first meet the following criteria: Valid payment methods must be available, and refund policies and terms of use must be in place and integrated into the navigation. You must have deactivated your store password for the process and entered contact information. If these points are guaranteed, your Merchant Center account must be linked. You will see here the hint that the product data will be transferred there. This means the current status can be viewed there or in Shopify at any time. Furthermore, the Ads account must be linked.

Shopify Google Shopping - How to link the Google Merchant Center

To finally link your Merchant Center account, enter the domain of your store in the Merchant Center and integrate the HTML code displayed in the Merchant Center into the specified location of your active Shopify theme. If you have any problems, please contact our store experts.
Finally, only the product feed settings need to be adjusted. That means you have to specify your specific Target Market locally, as well as define whether you want to fill in the Shipping Settings manually or automatically. Manually means you specify them in the Merchant Center itself, only then the feed will be synchronized. Automatic means the data is taken from the store.

Shopify YouTube Shopping

Finally, in the first tab you can see the current status of your products. The verification may take a few days. From here you can also create Smart Campaign to promote your products in Google Search or YouTube. Speaking of YouTube.
