These are the disadvantages of a standard Shopify domain
Now back to the custom domain. First of all, everyone who has created a Shopify store gets a Shopify domain so that their store can be accessed. It does not matter if you have already purchased a plan or are still a test dealer.
This is always “Shopname.myshopify.com”. So if our store is called “Coffeeshop3000” our domain would be coffeeshop3000 or “coffeeshop3000-en.myshopify.de”. On the one hand, this is not catchy, you have the Shopify branding in the domain, it doesn’t look very serious and from an SEO point of view, it wouldn’t be efficient and advisable either. Therefore, the solution is to acquire your own domain. This works as you saw in the last episode, on external sites, but also in Shopify itself.

To do this, you also have to go back to the settings and click on “Domains” and there on “Buy new domain”.
Enter your desired domain and see if it is still available. In our case, we are lucky and also immediately see how much it would cost us per year. If you want to see other alternatives, click on “Show next”. Here you can see that the price can also vary greatly. Now all you have to do is click on “Buy”.
The following must be considered in advance
As a small hint in addition. Make sure that your payment details are stored in Shopify beforehand. Finally, you will receive an overview of the data and can check whether all the information provided is correct. Then be careful if you really want to have the domain renewed automatically every year. If not, uncheck the box and click on “Buy domain”. The advantage you have here is that everything else is set up automatically by Shopify.
