Shopify YouTube Shopping - The Cooperation of the Year?

We have a new, big and potentially groundbreaking collaboration to announce that plays into the hands of all current but also future Shopify merchants. Previously, we had already talked about the link between Instagram and Shopify and the link between TikTok and Shopify. In case you missed it, here are the articles linked. But in today’s announcement it is about the linking of the second largest search engine in the world, that is YouTube and one of the most popular store systems – namely Shopify. You can now bring your store to YouTube. What will sound strange at first will make more sense to you in a moment, so stay tuned and watch the video until the end to understand how you as an online retailer can benefit from it in the future.

Shopify YouTube Shopping - What is it?

But now back to the topic – What is YouTube Shopping all about?
To be able to connect the two first, there is the “Google Channel” app in the Shopify App Store. With this you can set up Google as a sales channel in your Shopify backend area and thus transfer your product range from the store to Google, in this case specifically YouTube.
There you will have 3 options to present your products.

Option 1: During a live shopping event, your products can be displayed. The viewer then has the opportunity to purchase these products directly. In turn, the retailer has the option to pin and mark certain products.
The second option is to present your products under the video, with a direct link to the store where the product can then be purchased.
And you can probably guess – option 3 is a curated product selection, as a store tab within the channel, similar to what we already know from Instagram and TikTok.

What is the function of Shopify?

But if these features have obviously been built natively into YouTube, why do you need Shopify at all?
The Shopify integration is said to offer the advantage that all product descriptions such as names, images and prices, as well as shipping options are displayed updated at all times. If a product is no longer available, it is automatically removed from the product list on YouTube. In the U.S., moreover, selected merchants can already sell products to their consumers directly on the platform without redirecting them to another website. Whether and when this will be possible in Germany remains to be seen. Should that be the case, we will definitely inform you about it on this channel. A subscription is therefore always worthwhile.
