Shopware vs. WooCommerce

The comparison of store systems

In the eBakery online store system comparison this time are Shopware vs WooCommerce. Two open source solutions – one from Germany, the other from America. Whether Shopware can compete with the store system of the world’s best-known CMS system, you can find out in the video.

Shopware vs. WooCommerce - Who can convince?

In the previous episodes, we had compared all German store systems in all combinations. Now let’s get away from that a bit and focus on the comparison between a German store system, which stands for scalability, large eCommerce businesses and a lot of performance, and the classic North American store system on the other side. We are talking about Shopware and WooCommerce. Numerically as we see not in balance, there WooCommerce has the nose in front worldwide. This is also not surprising, since WooCommerce has WordPress as its base, which in turn is the most popular and widely used content management system in the world.

Shopware vs. WooCommerce - Connectivity with JTL-Wawi

If you use JTL-Wawi as your ERP system, you should be happy to hear that there is a connector for both store systems. However, we hear again and again from merchants that the synchronization with Shopware should run better. What Shopware has also further increased in the 6th version is the point content. Just as rightly the best CMS, WordPress provides everything it takes to be able to write blog articles as well, which you will definitely need to achieve good Google rankings. That this is possible with WordPress is no question, but thanks to the worlds of experience in Shopware 6 you now have not only the possibility to expand your content, but also the whole thing very comfortable. However, where WordPress has the nose in front is the topic of extensions. There are countless extensions for WooCommerce. Although there is also the Shopware Store with many extensions and apps, but they are usually more expensive and not as extensively available as with WordPress.

Two open source store systems in comparison

What advantage both have, however, is the customizability. Both systems are open source, which means that if you work with an agency, custom solutions can be created. Since you have clicked on our video, you will probably also sell in Germany. As you probably already know, there are certain criteria that have to be met for the German market. Shopware does justice to this out of the box as a German store system. But it’s really fair to say that WooCommerce has done a great job with the German Market and Germanized plugin. This will also make your WooCommerce store legally compliant for the German market.

Both systems are free of charge

Both systems are free from the ground up. That means you can easily download WooCommerce as a free extension to WordPress. Shopware is also free in the Community Edition. That means you would only have to pay for the web space or server. If you then need extensions, however, it is worthwhile in most cases to take the Professional Plan from Shopware. With WooCommerce there are no such plans, here the costs are incurred by extensions such as a page builder or the paid version of German Market, for which you then also receive support.

Shopware vs. WooCommerce - Summary

The bottom line is that Shopware is the best performing store system for the DACH region if you have more than 10,000 items. If you are already familiar with WordPress and not a huge corporation, you can probably get away with WooCommerce cheaper and also have the best CMS in the world. But instead of mutzumaßen just try it out. Both store systems can be used free of charge.
