Create Facebook Pixel

And connect with your Shopify store

How to create the Facebook Pixel and set it up in your Shopify store is explained in this Shopify tutorial. Learn what the Facebook Pixel is, what it’s for, and how you can successfully run Facebook ad campaigns in the future.

Facebook Pixel - What is it?

The Facebook Pixel is ultimately just a JavaScript code that allows Facebook and Instagram ads to be targeted and tracked based on data. When properly integrated, it allows you to not only more accurately target your audience to develop more effective ads, but also to accurately measure the success of your ads.

Create Facebook Pixel - Custom Audience / Lookalike Audience

With the help of the Facebook pixel, you can create so-called Custom Audiences. In other words, a target group of visitors who, for example. visited your online store but did not complete a purchase. In order to reach these people specifically with your marketing campaign, this Custom Audience is used when placing the Facebook ad, which could be created in the first place due to the Facebook Pixel. This Custom Audience can then in turn be used to create a Lookalike Audience that has similar interests and characteristics to the people from our Custom Audience collected with the Facebook Pixel.
You can then address a broad target group that is most likely to be interested in your product. Sounds probably a bit complicated for complete newbies, but what you can take as a message from this is – If you want to run Facebook or Instagram ads, use the Facebook Pixel beforehand to avoid burning money, otherwise you might be targeting the wrong group of people.

Now where can I find this Facebook Pixel and create it ?

You won’t find it anywhere until you create it. However, you can do that in Facebook Events Manager. If you are in the Facebook Business Suite, go to More Tools and then Events Manager here. Click on the green cross, choose Web, select the Facebook Pixel and enter your correct domain and give it a name. We can and want to save ourselves work and time, which is why we use partner integration. Here we pick Shopify and follow what Facebook tells us.

Shopify integration

We log into our Shopify store and already see Facebook integrated as a sales channel. This might not be the case for you, which is why you need to go to the plus next to Sales Channel first. Then you pick Facebook and add it. We now click on the Facebook sales channel once and select the lowest item Facebook Marketing. Now we go through all the steps. Connect your Facebook account by entering the password. Select the Business Manager account where you just created the pixel and click Connect. In the next step you will select the display account. Now the matching Facebook page. We want to track as much as possible for our store, so we select “Maximum” in the field below and continue. Now we see below that Shopify has already created its own pixel. But we don’t want to use it, we just want to create our own. Therefore, disconnect the connection and select the appropriate one by clicking Connect next to it. Selects the appropriate destination country, which for us is Germany, and completes the setup. With which Shopify congratulates us now to be able to use Facebook marketing measures. So we’ve made all the necessary arrangements and we can go back into our Events Manager in Facebook.
