Create Shopify category

In Shopify, both automated and manual categories can be created. Depending on how much emphasis you have placed on article maintenance in advance, one or the other will offer more. If you want to know which category type is more suitable for you and how to create it, watch our screencast.

Create Shopify category

To create a category, you need to go to the main Products item in the left column in the backend of your Shopify store and then select the Categories sub-item. Now you can use the Create Category button in the upper right corner to create a new category to organize your products.

Title, description, media

Here you can enter the appropriate title and optionally add a description. We would definitely advise you to fill it from an SEO point of view. To stay visually organized as well, a category image can be inserted.

Automated category vs. manual category

With the automated category you can add products with a certain tag to this category. If you have maintained your articles well in advance, this category type will save you a lot of work. But even if this is not the case, you can still assign products to a category manually by selecting the manual category.
