Shopify Fulfillment Interface

This is how you outsource the settlement processes

In this video, we’ll show you how to configure the Shopify Fulfillment interface. This is required if you do not want to pack and ship the orders yourself, but your fulfillment service provider does. You can see how to connect it to your Shopify store here.

Shopify Fulfillment Interface - Outsource fulfillment processes

In addition to the already frequently discussed areas of product creation and product data maintenance, marketing, tax law, recruiting, online retailer existence naturally also includes “order processing” – also known as “fulfillment” in English, i.e. packaging, shipping, returns management, etc.
But is that absolutely necessary? The clear answer is no. Why is that, you ask?
We’ll answer that for the Shopify store system in this article.

Looking for a Shopify agency?

If you want to save your time and have your issue or problem solved directly, we at eBakery are happy to take care of it as a Shopify agency. All information and the possibility to make an appointment you can get on the page Top right. But why is it not mandatory for a dealer to care?

Shopify Fulfillment Interface - Online Retailer Without Own Warehouse

This is made possible on the one hand by the many fulfillment service providers, but in a technical sense also by the Shopify fulfillment interface. The API allows you to transfer all the necessary information from your Shopify store to the fulfillment service provider and synchronize it automatically so that you can outsource the entire order processing and concentrate on other things as a merchant. This makes it particularly interesting for those who have nothing to do with warehouse logistics or the like, but who, for example. Are web designers, now want to use their skills, put together a store with Shopify, hire an agency for marketing, and then outsource fulfillment.

Shopify Fulfillment vs. Shopify Dropshipping

On YouTube, for example. the most searched term about Shopify – “Shopify Dropshipping“, but is it now the same as Shopify Fulfillment? Similar but not the same. Fulfillement outsourcing would be if your eg. If you are the manufacturer of a product, you send the goods to the fulfillment service provider(s) and the fulfillment service provider ships the goods to the respective customers, handles the returns, etc., if required. Dropshipping, on the other hand, is when you don’t specifically purchase goods and store them temporarily on your premises, but when you access the inventory of a wholesaler or the manufacturer itself, sell them, and merely transmit the logistics order to them. That is two different things, but the common feature is that you do not have to handle the order processing and therefore do not need your own warehouse.

Configure Shopify Fulfillment Interface

But which data is relevant now? And how can the fulfillment service provider connect? To do this, let’s just go to our store backend. If you scroll all the way down there, you will see “Manage Private Apps”, click on it there. We want to activate this function and “checkmark” the necessary fields in the next step, which we then use to configure a private app, i.e. an API interface that we can also name for our service provider. Now click again on create private app. Here you can enter a name, e.g. the name of the fulfillment service provider must be entered. Otherwise, enter the developer email or your own for emergencies. Here you should either let your service provider inform you beforehand or simply let them help you with what data is needed. Definitely the orders, the fulfillment services, shipping, products, so the master data and, and, and.

For this you need the API Key

Once you have distributed the necessary rights, save and tell the API key with encryption. Store the data somewhere safe, because these are important for the service provider, because he can dock with it in his system via API to your store, in order to automate in the best case, for example. to get new orders sent over, in order to be able to process them without you as a dealer having to do anything. That should be it as an introduction to the topic for now. I think the article has made it clearer that the fulfillment process does not necessarily always have to lie with the retailer itself.
