This video is all about PayPal Express. First, we’ll clarify what it is and whether it’s different from traditional PayPal, and then give you instructions on how to integrate PayPal Express into your Shopify store as well.
So what is PayPal Express. To directly answer the question just asked – PayPal Express is not fundamentally different from the traditional PayPal.
The situation is different with PayPal and PayPal Plus. Here you can casually say that PayPal is rather the variant for private users and PayPal Plus is the variant for business people, so especially online merchants. The advantage that you get is the fact that with PayPal Plus you can also pay customers who do not have a PayPal account. However, in order to do so, the provider must first undergo a scan, be headquartered in Germany, and also pay transaction fees for the service.
PayPal Express, on the other hand, has nothing to do with business or personal use, but rather with an even more convenient buying experience. Everyone will probably have seen this button in an online store. PayPal Express is nothing else.
So you don’t have to have a customer account in the store or you don’t have to enter your address, name etc. tediously, because this information is transmitted by PayPal itself. So you skip the traditional checkout process and only have to enter your PayPal login information to complete the order. Let’s now take a look at how this can look in practice. You choose your product, put it in the shopping cart, go to the shopping cart and then you can choose between “Checkout” and “Go directly to PayPal”. I think the advantages are obvious here.
The statistical surveys show the online shopping behavior of Germans. This shows that in the period between 2016 and 2021, the relative share of those who store with their smartphone increased from 39% to 60%. On the other hand, an antagonistic development is seen in the desktop PC, whose share has fallen from 50% to 38%. PayPal Express is not responsible for this, of course, but it plays right into it. This is because it favors smartphone users in particular, who no longer have to type much on the small display. But how can you as a Shopify merchant benefit from this now.
We will now go through this in detail. You need to link your PayPal account to Shopify, so also log in with it via the backend or create a new one. We will now show you the latter. So go to the backend of your Shopify store, into the settings and onto the “Payments” menu item. We click on “Complete account setup”. Now enter your desired e-mail address and enter your country in which the company is located. In the next step you enter your individual password, which you want to use for the login in the future and click on “Next”. In the next step you will enter all relevant data incl. business phone number and checkmarkt the last two fields. In the following step, decide on the form of business that applies to you. Since we have already entered our company data, we can check “Same as business address” and only need to enter our date of birth. With this you are through and only need to validate your email address by clicking on the link in the mail. If you now go to your frontend and put a product into the shopping cart, it will look like this. So like in the Medion store, you have the option to check out directly with PayPal or go through the normal checkout process. The only difference with you then should be that the button is not grayed out, because you certainly have a plan, otherwise you can not sell.
As a final tip. If you want to use PayPal, but not PayPal Express, then you have the option to deactivate PayPal Express Checkout in the Payments section.
