Shopify Plus Wholesale Channel

The Shopify Plus Wholesale Channel gives you the option to set up a storefront within your online store for business customers only. Learn more about the advantages of this Shopify B2B solution in this Shopify Plus tutorial.

What is the Shopify Plus Wholesale Channel ?

After going through the benefits of Shopify Plus in the last episode, today we’re going to look at one particular feature in detail. The Wholesale Channel – that is, the wholesale channel reserved for Shopify Plus merchants only. With Shopify Plus Wholesale Channel, you can create your own separate, password-protected storefront for B2B commerce based on your online store. The time saving is that you don’t have to build a new online store just for wholesalers, but you can use the same products that you have already set up, optimized and maintained for this separate storefront. In your wholesale store, a customer can only see and order products in price lists to which they are assigned. You can sell the same products in your wholesale store as in your online store by adding these products to a price list and assigning a customer to this list.

These are the benefits of the Shopify Plus Wholesale Channel

When it comes to pricing, you have options such as percentage discounting for the entire store or only selected categories. Prices for products and variants can be defined in price lists, different prices can be offered and played out to individual key accounts – in other words, there is individualization and, ultimately, volume-dependent pricing rules can be defined for products and variants.

Order processing with the B2B channel

So much for the benefits, but how does the order processing in your Wholsales Channel work?
The ordering process itself is preceded by the invitation of the wholesaler to activate a wholesale account is required. This will allow him to log in to your site and place orders.
These orders will be displayed as drafts in your Shopify admin area and will be edited by you as follows.

  • Variant 1: Either you can send an invoice afterwards, which will be paid via a payment provider of your Shopify store.
  • Variant 2: You send a custom billing email that allows other payment methods, e.g. Transfers
  • Variant 3: the invoice can be set to paid or partially paid.

Are there any disadvantages to the Shopify Plus Wholesale Channel?

But now, finally, the question arises: “Is there a but, i.e. any disadvantages or things to consider”?
Shopify itself at least points out that the Shopify Plus Wholsale Channel cannot be integrated with external systems, nor with third-party apps. In addition, a price representation with and without tax is unfortunately not possible about it. If these are essential functions for you, the only option is to use an extension store.
However, if the Shopify Plus feature appeals to you, but you are not completely convinced yet, then you are welcome to be convinced in this video.
