Step-by-step instructions for beginners

In this tutorial we will show you how to set up the TikTok Pixel. The pixel gives you the opportunity to collect all data on certain advertisements. These can then be used to optimize the advertising campaigns. You can see how it works here.

The TikTok Pixel

In order to be able to track sales in the online store, i.e. how the respective customers became aware of your store, you need a so-called pixel. This tracks all data from the access page to the completion of the purchase. This gives you the opportunity to improve your marketing measures efficiently. We’ll show you how to set this up for the TikTok Pixel here.

TikTok Pixel setup tutorial - What is a pixel?

So what is a pixel? In fact, it is usually a 1 x 1 pixel that is integrated into the HTML code of a website. In the best case, however, this should not be visible to the site visitor, but should fulfill a different purpose. If the exact page on which the tracking pixel is located is accessed, this is noted in the log files. This means that the store operator can draw conclusions about how many people have reached their store through a particular ad, what the conversion rate is, etc. If this is good, he can increase the ads budget and ultimately make more sales.

Create TikTok Business Account

So much for the theory, now I’ll show you how this is possible for TikTok and Shopify. Here we are on the TikTok for Business homepage. To create a business account, click on “Start” in the top right-hand corner. You can now log in with your TikTok account, which would be linked to your business account, or create a completely new one. Once you have gone through the registration process, it should look like this. Here we are in the TikTok Business Center. To be able to view our pixel data here, we first have to create it in Shopify, so let’s go to the admin area.

Here we type “TikTok ” into the bar at the top, click on the app and make sure that it was developed by TikTok Inc. Now install it. In the app, we then need to link our TikTok for Business, TikTok Business Center and TikTok Ads Manager account. Log in in each case. In the “Data sharing” section, you will also find the pixel mentioned above. First specify exactly which data should be tracked. I cannot give a general recommendation here, as data protection regulations differ from country to country. You can then select a pixel or create a new one. This is then automatically integrated into the HTML code of your store. Once you have entered your company details, you can click on “Finish setup”. Your accounts will now be checked and, if everything is in order, released within 24 hours.

How to check whether the pixel is working

In the meantime, you can install the TikTok Pixel Helper in the Chrome browser as an extension. With this, you can always see that your Pixel is working properly. You can do this, for example. yourself by adding an item to the shopping cart and checking whether a “Checkout” note has been added in the Chrome Pixel Extension. If this is the case, you can assume that the Pixel is working properly. If this is not the case, check all settings in Shopify again or contact us at eBakery. Set up TikTok Pixel Tutorial - Analyze data

Once your accounts have been approved, you can go back to the TikTok Business Center, where we were at the beginning. From here we go to our TikTok Ads Manager, where we then go to our Events Manager under Tools and Events and click on Web Events. Here we see our pixel. If we click on it, we can view all data such as Add to Cart, Add Payment Info, Search, Complete Payment, etc.
This gives you information about how high the bounce rate is, how many of the people reached clicked on the TikTok ad, how many of them ended up buying, whether there were shopping cart abandoners and much more.
