More than 10,000 orders per day: This is how startups like BitterLiebe from “Die Höhle der Löwen” master the high demand for the broadcast logistically

BitterLiebe is a startup that offers bitters from natural herbs in the form of powder, tea and drops in their online store. With their idea, the two founders Andre Sierek and Jan Stratmann were able to convince Judith Williams in the founder format “Die Höhle der Löwen”. The investor secured 20 percent of the startup for 200,000 euros. The founders worked for months leading up to their appearance on the show – because the peak in orders needed to be as smooth and customer-friendly as possible logistically.

The day of broadcast: More than 2.9 million discover BitterLiebe on “Die Höhle der Löwen

Already in the early preparation phase, the founders decided to set themselves up professionally for the day of the broadcast and the weeks afterwards. From field reports, from platforms like Gründerszene and use cases of other startups, Andre and Jan knew what airing on the popular startup show on VOX, which has around 2.9 million viewers per show, would mean. The startup 3Bears, for example, recorded around 15,000 orders in its online store in the first 12 hours. Such a large number of orders can only be handled by automated processes – i.e., automated payment verification, error-free transfer of the order from the store and marketplaces to the company’s own warehouse or to the fulfillment service provider, inventory reconciliation to avoid overselling, triggered information to customers, and automated label printing and shipping. And all this for incoming returns, please. Similar to 3Bears, the founders researched ERP systems extensively that could offer an attractive licensing model for businesses while ensuring high performance when scaling orders. They chose the Xentral ERP enterprise resource planning system. The reason for the decision was, among other things, the functional strength in the e-commerce environment and the easy-to-use interface.

“We knew about the potential that broadcasting would give us. Consequently, we wanted to be professionally positioned when it came to shipping. The exchange with other startups and use cases from startup portals like Gründerszene supported us significantly in our decision – that’s how we came to choose Xentral as our ERP system.”

Power boost for shipping: Combi of ERP and Fulfiller

The decision to use Xentral as the enterprise resource planning system was made shortly after the go-ahead for the deal, so about six months before the show aired. The question of whether BitterLiebe would handle its logistics in-house or outsource them to a fulfillment service provider was still open. Initially, the choice fell on the in-house warehouse, later additionally on a Fulfiller. Another advantage of Xentral: the system can be connected to both a dedicated warehouse and a fulfillment facility. Many eCommerce startups opt for the combination of ERP system and fulfillment service provider. In this way, the administrative effort can be minimized and the company can focus on its core competence of “sales”. For a fast implementation and an optimized sales funnel, the Xentral team worked together with the eCommerce agency eBakery, which is also a service partner of Xentral. After less than just eight weeks, the world behind BitterLiebe was cleverly set up.

Over 10,000 orders in one day

Andre and Jan were well prepared for the day of broadcast and with the help of their team, their external partners and friends and family, they were able to cope with the rush to their online store. Over 10,000 orders were received by BitterLiebe that day and were successfully shipped.

In addition to BitterLiebe, a large number of startups from “Die Höhle der Löwen” rely on Xentral

For startups that want to sell primarily online, there seems to be no way around this professional and affordable ERP system. Besides BitterLiebe, 3Bears, YFood, Pumperlgsund, FitTaste or Luicella’s Ice Cream and many others also rely on the ERP system from Xentral.

What does Xentral do as an ERP system?

In short, the ERP system forms the central corporate platform. From this, all company information and key figures can be called up at any time and essential processes can be controlled. ERP stands for “Enterprise Resource Planning”, i.e. the planning of resources such as personnel, goods, capital, etc. in the company. ERP solutions have a central database. This data home is where all the strands of information come together.

The central platform enables online retailers to maintain a transparent overview of warehouse capacities, order volumes, invoice items and much more data. Hardly any established retailer can do without the use of a professional ERP solution. Therefore, factors such as usability, transparency and intelligence of the system are essential aspects when choosing the appropriate ERP system. Xentral ERP builds on a strong connection of the mentioned points and is also fully usable from 65 euros per month.
