Create Gambio Category
How do you create and configure a category in Gambio?
Create a new category in Gambio and configure it – that’s the goal and content of this Gambio Screencast Tutorial. If you want to know where to find the categories and how to create them and make them active for the store frontend, you should watch this video.
Here you can find the Gambio categories and create a new one
In the administration area of our Gambio store, we click on the articles in the left column and this maneuvers us directly into the right area, as the first subcategory represents articles and categories. We see here our overview menu, illustrating our categories, but also leading us to our subcategories and finally to our articles. However, in this article we want to start by creating a category. For this we go to the arrow next to the “Create” button and click on “Category”. The first thing that catches our eye is the category master data.
Editing the category master data
By default, each new category is disabled first. We can change this by setting the status to active. Below that, the HTML templates can be selected, which on the one hand can be used for category pages are intended for which subcategories are displayed with and for category pages without subcategories. The former is determined with the category overview templates. The latter, i.e. the category pages without subcategories, are determined with the article overview template.
The next two fields concern the item sorting within the category. That is, whether they should be sorted by sort order, or by price, or by weight, or by any of the other sort parameters. Furthermore, it is determined whether this sorting is done in ascending or descending order. After that, a value for the sort order of the category – i.e. the position on which this particular category should be displayed in menus and in the category overview – can be specified.
These sitemap settings should be considered when creating the new Gambio category
Also for the sitemap it can be defined exactly whether the category should be included in it at all and if yes which ones priority is assigned to it – i.e. how important the entry in the sitemap is for search engines. This can be set with a value between 1 for very important and 0 for unimportant. Likewise, a default can be given as to how often the search engine sitemap entries should be updated. However, the actual change frequency depends on the search engine itself in the end. If you don’t know what a sitemap is, we have linked the video here, in which the sitemap is explained using another store system. The GX-Customizer Set is in short a possibility to individualize articles by the customer within your Gambio store. So for example. the preparation of a custom lettering on a T-shirt. This module would be added to all articles when it is activated. This can then be extended to the subcategories with a check mark in “Include subcategories” or deleted for all items within the category with a check mark in the field below.
Pay attention to SEO when creating the Gambio category
Following this, the category details can be edited. So name of the category, heading and description. For our example, we have changed each field to be filled in a little bit to be able to identify what is what right away in the frontend. The description can be optimized here very well by means of text editor both optically, and from user experience point of view, as well as from SEO point of view, by espw. internal links can be set or important keywords can be bolded, enumerations can be generated or H1, H2, H3 headings can be set. Again, think about search engine optimization:
- Name image file in binding notation beforehand
- Place focus keyword in it
- Compress file
- Alternative text in Gambio incl. Enter focus keyword
Checks if your category was created successfully
This would create your category. As you will see, in the category navigation bar the category name is taken over and as a heading of the category itself, just the category heading is entered. The category image is placed first and below the category image is the category description.
