OXID eShop optimization

An OXID eShop is a solid foundation for your online sales. Once your store is completely set up, it’s time for optimization. For this purpose, there are some tools that you can use to check your OXID eShop. Here we give you some examples.

GTMetrix

If you understand English well, GTMetrix is a good place to check the speed of your website. You will also find tips on how to fix problems.

The loading speed is relatively slow in this example, which is partly due to the fact that proper caching is not enabled for certain resources. In addition, the page generates many requests. These could be bundled or prevented by local caching.

Google Pagespeed Insights

a detailed evaluation and differentiates here between mobile and desktop view. However, values also play a role here that Google would like to see, but which do not necessarily mean a bad ranking.

Often, for example, it is noted that the images should be provided in the more modern format WebP. But well compressed JPG files will do. A good tool for this is TinyPNG. Just upload the image and download the compressed file. Then paste it into the web page, done. This often saves you a lot of loading time.

OXID eShop SEO

The OXID eShop is already equipped with good basic settings for SEO. Thus, the store automatically creates speaking URLs that are search engine and user friendly. Namely, the address is thus well ordered and easy to read, just like www.shop.de/t-shirts/rotes-t-shirt/

The page title, which plays a major role for search engines, is taken from the article name. In addition, you can make further settings in the admin area under “Master data / Basic settings / SEO”: A specific prefix or suffix and the title of the start page.

You can also set the SEO IDs separator. Standard is the hyphen and is generally accepted as standard. This separator comes into play when the URL consists of several words:

www.shop.de/lange-kategorie/langer-artikel-mit-zusätzen/

For articles, categories and the home page you can also enter extra meta descriptions and titles. While Google doesn’t always stick to displaying this in search results, it does a pretty good job of judging what the page, category or article is about.
