Requirements for the sale on OTTO Market

In order to be able to sell on OTTO Market, you as a merchant must take into account a number of requirements. In this episode we take a look at what OTTO requires, what the OTTO Market price structure looks like, how shipping and returns work and what special feature the JTL-Wawi middleware Unicorn 2 offers you.

Minimum requirements, cost structure and shipping at OTTO Market

Since we have already explained to you how to register on OTTO Market, we will focus in this article on the minimum requirements or formalities that must be met in order to be allowed to sell on the marketplace. In addition, the cost structure will be of interest to most retailers, but also what special features need to be considered.

These are the requirements you must meet

The first requirement is the German legal form of the company and the German VAT ID. Both must be present or applicable.
You act as a seller on Otto.de and must therefore also provide a customer service in German, which answers the customer’s questions. Shipping and returns handling is done by the retailer itself. If this is already an exclusion criterion for you, don’t bury your head in the sand. Otto refers to their service partner ODC – i.e. On Demand Commerce. Get in touch with you to transfer the logistics process.

OTTO Market the generalist

OTTO Market is considered a generalist and offers a wide range of goods. From furnishing & living to technology & media to garden & DIY, everything is represented. You can subdivide the respective assortment areas into product groups and check the OTTO Market page to see if your preferred product group is included.

Price structure and shipping on OTTO Market

Now let’s move on to probably the most interesting topic of the price structure. As usual on other marketplaces, you pay a monthly fee and a commission depending on the product group. That is, depending on what products you sell, the amount to be made will be different. On the subject of shipping and returns, it should be noted that, as of November 2020, only Hermes, DHL and GLS can be used as parcel service providers. That means DPD is currently out, but this can still change. The shipping costs can be set per shipping method in the OTTO Market backend, that means e.g. the DHL package costs 4,99€. If you use Unicorn 2 from marcos software, however, there is the possibility to set this up within Unicorn 2 per shipping class in the Wawi. There, the shipping costs are then priced into the item prices. As shown here, the shipping process is very simple. The item is ordered, the order is forwarded to you, the order is confirmed by you and the item is shipped by you.

Returns ID must be provided

The special feature here, however, which cannot be covered by every ERP, is the simultaneous provision of the returns code. So as a merchant you have to provide a return ID so that OTTO accepts the shipment and the order can be settled. This then also means that the return label can be printed out by the customer on OTTO itself in order to initiate the return shipment. This therefore does not have to be enclosed with the package.

JTL-Wawi middleware for transferring item data to OTTO Market

Which software covers all this is Unicorn 2 from marcos software the Multichannel Marketplace Connector for JTL-Wawi.
