How to create attributes in your online store
Create OXID eShop attributes - This is how it works
After we have created categories as well as articles in the last episodes, the logical consequence is that we take a closer look at attributes in this video. But now let’s go back to the backend of our OXID eShop 6. The attributes can also be found in the main menu “Manage items”. This might make it clearer what the attributes are about. There are again standard predefined attributes at the top and the possibility to create new attributes in the lower half. This means that attributes virtually define the properties of a product. This can be the color, the size or the weight.
However, since each product has different properties or different attributes are relevant for each product, there is the possibility to add further attributes here.
Create OXID eShop attributes - practical example
Let’s go for example. from a video camera, they differ in the Maximum Frame Rate they can perform. Therefore, let’s create this attribute once. That is, the name we distribute is “Maximum Frame Rate”. The sort order, as we already know from the other videos, determines the order in which the attributes are displayed. If the lowest checkbox is activated, the attribute is displayed in the shopping cart and in the order overview under the item title. To enter the category tab, you must first confirm your previous entries by saving. The Assign Categories button opens a new window in which the attribute can be assigned to categories. In the Assignment window, all categories are displayed in the left list. The desired categories can be dragged and dropped into the middle list. This shows all categories which use this attribute. Multiple selection is possible by holding down the Ctrl key.
Create and assign OXID eShop attributes
So let’s do that for our new attribute and assign that to the category we created in the last episode. If you now go into the article for which you want to assign this attribute, you will find the attribute under the Selection tab. Here we have our Maximum refresh rate and can now drag and drop it into the right list. We can enter the value for this attribute by clicking on the attribute and filling the field on the right margin. Let’s just enter “60FPS” here and save. In order to demonstrate that this also works for attributes that have already been predefined by default, we will add the material and also fill the value.

If we now go to the frontend and enter our new category, we see the article created in the last episode and lo and behold, under Specification both attributes are incl. Values available.
