The Hero Image or Hero Images are images that explain everything you need to know about the product at a glance. By combining a well-photographed image of your product on a high-contrast background with the most important core information in the margin, you provide the customer with the optimal user experience. What is a Hero Image?

Pictures say more than a thousand words – at least if they are well made. But it doesn’t work quite so well without words. The combination of both worlds brings the customer the most in the end. A picture on which the product is not cut off, but is clearly visible, paired with the most important information – this is the so-called Hero Image.

More satisfaction for the customer through Hero Images

Hero Images let the customer know directly what brand it is, what flavor it is or how big your product is without having to scroll down to the product description.
This speeds up the customer’s buying process, saves them time and ultimately increases satisfaction.

What do I need to consider when creating the Hero Image?

The following four W-questions should be answered by your picture:

  1. Who is the brand behind the product?
    Brands create trust, stand for quality in the best case and thus distinguish themselves from no-name products, especially on Amazon and eBay.
  2. What is it about?
    Whether your product is a cell phone, a flashlight or a razor should be clear from the visual impressions of the picture, no text is needed for this.
  3. How do I use it?
    Specific instructions on how to use your product often highlight the product’s USP and show its added value
  4. How much is available?
    This does not mean the goods that you still have in stock, but the quantity of a particular product that is offered with the purchase. So for example. 60 tablets in a pack or 500ml shower gel in a bottle

Responsive design should be considered

As a final but crucial tip – make your Hero Image responsive. This means that the image looks good not only on the desktop, but especially on the smartphone. Accordingly, it should also be checked multi-medially, i.e. on several end devices. Because more and more people are using their cell phones for online shopping.

Design and optimize Hero Image with Canva

For additional imagery besides your actual product, we mainly use the sites Pixabay and Unsplash. To easily and for free put it all together into one image, in our opinion probably the best Photoshop alternative is Canva. With Canva you can add shapes, text boxes, as well as fonts. Transform the whole thing and thus resize it and with a little understanding of design, get to your personal Hero Image in no time. If the design understanding is completely missing, then look for a reference image and arrange your text boxes exactly like on this sample image and try to find a similar font in the many available fonts and you’ll get there.
