Create and transfer WhatsApp backup 2023
In this video, we show you how to transfer WhatsApp to your new cell phone. We demonstrate how to create a backup, show you how future backups are automatically created, how they are deleted and point out which requirements must be met. All this in this WhatsApp tutorial.
How do I get WhatsApp on my new cell phone?
As we have seen in the last WhatsApp episodes, interest in it is very high, which suggests that the app is also being used more and more in the business sector. But what if the old company cell phones no longer support the latest update? On the one hand, this represents a security gap, but is also increasingly becoming a performance problem, i.e. the cell phones run slowly. But what do you do if you want to transfer all your WhatsApp data from the old phone to the new one? This is exactly what we demonstrate in this episode.
The requirements
What do you need to transfer all your WhatsApp data from one cell phone to the other?
Two cell phones, of course. So far, WhatsApp should only be installed on the old cell phone. If it is also on the new cell phone, uninstall it first. To be able to transfer the data quickly and easily, we also need a Google Drive account with sufficient storage space.
How much is enough depends on the amount of data you have. If you don’t have this account yet, create one.
Transfer WhatsApp to a new cell phone - Create the backup
If everything is available, we can start by opening WhatsApp and clicking on the three dashes in the top right-hand corner and going into the settings. Continue with “Chats” and “Chat Backup”. A backup can now be created manually here, but this is the less good option. Ideally, your cell phone should also create backups on its own at regular intervals in the future. Therefore, we go to “Save to Google Drive” and set a suitable interval. The correct Google account to which the backup is to be saved must then be selected. A further note: We recommend deactivating the “Back up via mobile data” option so that updates are only created when you are in the WLAN. Otherwise your monthly data volume will quickly be used up. You also have an influence on whether the videos should be transmitted or not. This can make a difference of several gigabytes. This means that from now on you no longer have to do anything manually, but can transfer all your WhatsApp data to any cell phone by logging in with your Google account.
Transfer WhatsApp to a new cell phone - here's how
If you are now on a different cell phone, download WhatsApp first. WhatsApp is verified by an active cell phone number. This must now be entered here on the new cell phone, whereupon you will receive a confirmation code on the old cell phone. Of course, this is only the case if the SIM card is still in your old cell phone. Once you have confirmed your identity, WhatsApp will ask you for a backup. The synchronization works automatically if you have already signed in to your Google account on the new cell phone. If you then click on “Restore”, the backup will be restored automatically and all your WhatsApp data will be transferred.
How to delete old backups
So far so good. But what if you have now transferred the data from the old company phone to the new one, but your 15GB of free Google Drive storage is now full? This can actually happen if there are a lot of videos. But don’t worry. To do this, open the Google Drive app, click on the burger menu at the top left and select the Backup menu. Here you can see your fuses and can, for example, change them. delete the last one by clicking on the three-dot menu and then on “Delete backup”. You should now have enough cloud storage available again.
